Very good.
I recently heard about a phone which has next generation Texting. Instead of having to actually type in every letter, it has automatic voice recognition, so all you have to do is speak into it. At the other end the text is converted back into realistic speech which the recipient can hear on the earpiece of their phone. It is ideal for those of us whose eyesight isn't what it used to be.
Incredible thing, technology!
Quack!
GtD.

You don't get it.
Face to face communication is frightening for some people, so they frequently use a telephone, in order to get a little "distance".

Telephone conversation is scary or difficult for some people, so they use e-mail or forums -- this slows things down and reduces the scare factor somewhat.

Texting serves the same function - it basically reduces the bandwidth of the communication to a rate that feels comfortable.

Of course if it gets too slow, like some web sites I could name, it gets very frustrating, and one tends to get upset and maybe use language that you wouldn't if someone could actuall hear you (like Mudcat?)

So the message is, choose a communication method that suits your personality type, and learn to use it effectively. (Yup, I'm still working at that--)

Just make sure it doesn't include too many secret spy devices, or else you may have to clean up your act.

MD
