Are there any mudcatters living in or around Fort Scott Kansas?

The Fort Scott Chamber of Commerce says there are "about 15,000 people" there. I haven't seen anyone on the 'cat mention being in that area.

It's about 60 miles straight south of Kansas City, on a good road. Shortest distance from Wichita is about 180 miles on less good (but not too bad) roads.

Folkish interest in Kansas seems most common in Kansas City, Manhattan, Lawrence, and other areas with either high population density or major schools. Given the road connections people would likely use, anyone in almost any other major city would go through KC to get to Fort Scott, so their distance would be at least 60 miles plus distance from KC.

(Useless trivia posted only because a thread with two posts is more likely to attract clicks than one with only one, and I'm also curious about who might respond.)

John

Be aware that the 60 miles from KC isn't considered a long drive in the area. Lots of people in the vicinity go about that far to get to a grocery store or to go to a movie (although Ft. Scott may have both locally lots of towns of similar size don't).

I don't see any other towns of "significant size" in the immediate area though. Ft. Scott is a "historic" area, and there are several cultural attractions there, i.e. museums etc., although mostly to "small town scale." Their Gordon Parks museum/gallery is worth note, but the Chamber of Commerce indicates only about two dozen of his photos on exhibit, which isn't really much for a "native son museum" for someone with his credentials.
