Subject: Shock, Horror! ITMA invades France! From: MartinRyan Date: 19 Jul 15 - 07:32 AM Not content with upsetting our North Atlantic Islands cousins, it turns out that the Irish have, for twenty five years, being subverting French culture by running a very successful summer school/festival of Irish traditional music in the Dordogne! Click here for details. ;>)> Regards p.s. More seriously, it shows how a generation of French fans of Irish music produced musicians well able to play in and contribute to that tradition. |

Subject: RE: Shock, Horror! ITMA invades France! From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 19 Jul 15 - 10:21 AM Earlier I made a post, where has it gone???, about Nicholas Carolan mentioning recently that in their time going to Tocane, ITMA has recorded many older local musicians playing their local music and have so created a resource for the musicians of the area that hadn't been there before. I haven't heard about the French being up in arms, demanding ITMA change their name yet. |
Subject: RE: Shock, Horror! ITMA invades France! From: GUEST,Alan Ross Date: 19 Jul 15 - 10:27 AM ....No criticism. I love the writing of the ITMA page - words like..."Globalization"... You have to read it! Tongue in cheek reading of it as a Scot... Ireland, France - next Belgium, Poland... then we invade... Only being flippant! |
Subject: RE: Shock, Horror! ITMA invades France! From: GUEST Date: 19 Jul 15 - 10:27 AM Year I was there, I remember sitting outside one of two pubs in the village, listening to tunes. At 1 a.m. the clock on the floodlit church across the way, rang out - and an owl flew out of the tower and headed off hunting. Some wakeup call! Regards |
