Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: Stilly River Sage Date: 30 Jun 26 - 12:01 PM The side topics to do with tennis can be interesting also, such as Naomi Osaka's pushing boundaries as far as regulation tennis whites. For Naomi Osaka’s latest Grand Slam fashion statement, Wimbledon white was no limit See if these open (New York Times has a paywall): Naomi Osaka extended her run of stunning Grand Slam outfits at Wimbledon. Naomi Osaka walked out at Wimbledon in a stunning white ensemble. The beginning of the article: THE ALL ENGLAND CLUB, London — The all-white dress code Wimbledon has enforced for nearly 150 years is exacting. It extends to nearly every part of a player’s outfit, meaning shoelaces, socks and arm bands must be white. Colored trim around a collar or shirt cuff is permitted, so long as it does not measure wider than a centimeter. Women were only allowed to wear mid- or dark-colored undershorts starting in 2023. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 06 Jul 26 - 06:27 AM The hard-hitting Osaka takes down top seed and world No.1 Sabalenka in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time. I hope she's getting back to her major championship form from a few years back, she's got the game and is the kind of good sportsman I can root for. Coco is also going to the quarterfinals for the first time after another 3 setter, girl is living dangerously. Novaxx advances, big whoop. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: r.padgett Date: 06 Jul 26 - 04:09 PM Arthur Fery just beat Dimitrov in 5 sets Quarter finals now and a Brit to boot Well done Arthur ~ from a Wild card start Federer and Billie Jean watched from the box Ray |
Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: Tattie Bogle Date: 06 Jul 26 - 06:58 PM That was a cracking game: could have gone either way, but finished with the “ten point tie-break” rather than the old system where fifth sets sometimes went to ridiculous scores like 31-33. Preceded by another nail biter between Italian Paolini and Philippino Eala. Also anyone’s game, but Paolini won. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 07 Jul 26 - 11:15 AM When I left yesterday Dimitrov was up 2-1 and seemed to have the upper hand but Pery came back. Good job Wild Card boy. Today Sinner straight sets Struff and is rolling towards a match with the winner of No Vax - Aliasime, both men have been playing well. It looked like 4 seed Pegula was about to close out Coco in the 2nd set when I left for a Dr. appt. and I just got back and found Coco prevailed. I'm gonna a have to cancel everything til the fortnight is over. Osaka and Muchova next. |
Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: Tattie Bogle Date: 07 Jul 26 - 07:58 PM Another 10-point tie-break and records being broken. The longest ever men’s quarter final at Wimbledon when it exceeded the previous record of 5 hours 12 minutes. I was watching the match while having my supper, before I went to the pub for a folk session. Back home 3 hours later and they were still playing! Djokovic won on the tiebreak, 10-4. |
Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 08 Jul 26 - 06:57 AM I'm not a big No Vax fan but that old geezer was impressive yesterday. I wonder if he's got enough left in the tank for Sinne r who coasted in his match. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: r.padgett Date: 08 Jul 26 - 12:54 PM Fery centre court win again through to semi finals three straight sets Really good steady solid play ~ come on Arthur Ray |
Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: Tattie Bogle Date: 08 Jul 26 - 12:56 PM And Fery is now through to the semi-finals after beating Cobolli in only three sets, with a 6-0 third set: Cobolli looked like he just gave up! Fery faces Zverev next. Paolini knocked out by Ukrainian Kostyuk in 2 sets. |
Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 09 Jul 26 - 11:22 AM Muchova takes down Coco in in the best match I've seen in awhile, my heart stopped A few times during the 3rd set tiebreaker. So many great shots hit by both players and they used the whole court which is what I like to see at Wimbledon. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 10 Jul 26 - 10:58 AM The Fery tale is over. The hometown boy was overpowered by Zverev but had some good moments and gave the crowd something to cheer about. What a heckuva run he went on. |

Subject: RE: BS: Tennis From: gillymor Date: 10 Jul 26 - 01:50 PM No Vax goes down in straight sets. He played well, Sinner was just too good. |
