Subject: Where? New Orleans Music From: Hutzul Date: 23 Mar 00 - 02:32 PM Mudcatters: Can you help? I'll be in the Big Easy next week. Where can I hear the best Cajun-Zydeco music during the week. I only have a couple of days and don't want to waste time. Blues doesn't do it for me, but dancin' would be good. Thanks! |

Subject: RE: Help: Where? New Orleans Music From: Amos Date: 23 Mar 00 - 02:39 PM Geez, there's a dancing and party barn on the banks of a swamp about oh twenty miles east of town where I spent a great evening learning the twostep Cajun style, and playing with the band for a couple of numbers. Altho the band wasnative nad half Cajun their music was amix of trad and popular but it was a carload of fun. They laid on good chow and free beer for a company function I went to. Tellya what, I don't remember the name -- something Barn -- but you ask around and the folks in New Orleans will always help you out. Your hotel might even have a concierge type character who could tell you the exact place. |

Subject: RE: Help: Where? New Orleans Music From: Gary T Date: 23 Mar 00 - 04:31 PM Call the Rock 'n' Bowl (a bar/dance hall in a bowling alley). If I remember right, they had Zydeco and dancing every Thursday night, probably still do. |

Subject: RE: Help: Where? New Orleans Music From: Chet W. Date: 23 Mar 00 - 10:48 PM If you see some likely looking folks just drop an appropriate name, like Beau Jocque, and they'll tell you the good places. But be careful, N.O. really can be unsafe if you get even a few blocks in the wrong direction. Don't be too adventurous at night by yourself. It's my favorite town. Chet |

Subject: RE: Help: Where? New Orleans Music From: Dale Rose Date: 24 Mar 00 - 12:47 AM Check out this list of venues, courtesy of louisianaradio.com
Or you might check these schedules from cajunzydeco.net
I can't say that I am a true expert but here is my opinion ~~ the REAL thing will be found out on the prairie, and not in NO. If you have time, go to Eunice, Oppalousas, Crowley, Lafayette, etc. Of course, if you HAVEN'T got time, you can "make do" in New Orleans! |

In addition to the previously mentioned louisianaradio.com I heartily recommend KBON radio in Eunice for the best in Louisiana Listening. louisianaradio broadcasts in RA, and is experimenting with Mp3, though I have not tried that yet. KBON broadcasts through your Windows Media Player. (Set it to buffer 30 seconds and you should get a good quality signal, virtually uninterrupted, even if you only get a 26.4 connection as I do most of the time) |

Subject: RE: Help: Where? New Orleans Music From: Hutzul Date: 06 Apr 00 - 12:00 AM Thank's to all who gave their suggestions. I just got home from NOLA. The best city for a quick, fun get-away. By the way, my favorite for music turned out to be "Mulate's". Good food, a great cajun band "File" and some cajun dancin' ringers on the dance floor. Just a safe walk from the French Quarter. |
