Many thanks to one and all for your helpful suggestions on getting my cookie reset so that I am once again recognized as a memeber.

Recalling the words of my dear mother, I have printed out the newcomer's guide and when all else fails, I'll read the directions.

Now, can someone explain to me why I get a song about "A25" when I try to pull up "When The Evening Star Went Down".

Being a technological dummy, I have absolutely no clue.

I know the answer to this one! It's because, in "techo-geek" terms, the search is what the professionals call "screwy."

You did a search by clicking on the "W" up there maybe? I found the song by typing in the words "evening star." Here: When the "Evening Star" Went Down

Thanks, Jeri. The search is screwy. Clicking on "When the Evening Star..." in the "W" list brings up something weird. So I'll use the search or learn a new song. That's easy enough.

The title index has been acting like SuperSearch lately. Does the song you don't want (A 25) have the words star or evening in it? I have been having a devil of a time getting to the title I want because the index seems to bring up all the songs with a specific word in them, in reverse alpha order, no less.

I think I can explain the one from the W list. The list itself does not provide a direct link to a song but performs a search on the DT database based on that title. In this instance, the link says:

http://www.mudcat.org/!!-supersearch99.cfm?MaxHits=1&Command=search&NumLines=4&file=fall99&request=%5BWHEN+THE+

and the EVENING + STAR + WENT + DOWN is missing. This results in a search for every song in the DT with the words "When" and "The" in it. Not surprisingly, the fisrt song title which contains these 2 words starts with the letter A. If you carried on through the next page option at the top it would get to When the evening Star Went Down.

I am not sure why it was built this way (possibly to cater for variations in title) but it can produce some interesting results. A good one is "Grandfather's Clock", this correctly searches for GRANDFATER'S + CLOCK but unfortunately there is another entry in the DB that contains the note "To the tune of Grandfather's Clock" and this is the first song displayed. The song is called "My Grandfather's Cock".
