Posting to my recent thread "Kalgoorlie Pipeline", reminded me that I'd asked about WABO songs in it - like the one where the chorus went :

"Keep them logs rollin' boys Down to the mill, my boys Keep them logs a'rolling down And we'll push the cross-cuts through and we'll show what we can do And we'll pave all the streets of London Town"

Or something like that! (I think that was a reference to the forests of West Australian Jarrah ("Swan River Mahogany") being cut down and then used for paving the streets in the faraway Motherland!! Though some would suggest that that was a far worthier use than the modern woodchips to Japan thing ...)

Anyway, can anyone post the whole song?? (And any others of WABO's??) + DID they do the one about the Southern Cross Windmills??? (Can anyone post that?)

Cheers! R-J

G'day again rich-joy,

I'll post The Southern Cross is Turning (which I learned from Wongawilli's Graham Murray) when I get home ... unless I find it has been posted previously).

I have the credits in the file ... I presume it was written within the last twenty years, from a few word references, but I have no further background ... Bloody good song, though!

Regards,

Bob Bolton

G'day rich-joy,

Sorry about dropping the above posting in the wrong thread (it belonged in the Kalgoorlie Pipeline thread ... but it did serve to keep this thread refreshed!

Anyway, I can't help with the "jarrah logging" lyrics - but I would like to see the song if someone out there has it. Are the WABO (West Australian Bush Orchestra) songs available on released recordings? (I do remember some airplay on the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) but I don't know if that was from recordings or a commissioned programme.

Regards,

Bob Bolton

Hi Bob, I remember someone having a WABO cassette tape in Darwin in the 80's ... Gotta be some West Aussie 'catter who remembers them, surely??!!

Cheers! R-J

Rich-joy, PM me with your email, and I'll try to get in touch with Bob Rummery from WABO and pass it on to him.

Cheers

Bugsy
