The U.S. election hoopla is driving me crazy! I think of all the money and all the time that is spent by both parties and I cringe. At the same time I wonder if Michael Moore will ever tackle the subject. I'd like to see how the campaign in Afghanistan would look compared to the campaign in the states. Now that they are counting the votes, I wonder how they managed to inform the people of their choices. I really wonder what campaigning looks like in a newly formed democracy.

I certainly don't know Dianavan, but I do know that the folks in Afghanistan would never have had the opportunity were it not for George W. Bush and his administration routing the Taliban. You agree, I suppose?

I think it may depend on the way the campaign was conducted. I do think it would be an interesting comparison.

No "coalition", Doug R.? No Brits, Germans, French "surrender monkeys?" I'll be over the moon if Afghanistan comes at last in to the realms of true nationhood after this election. But I think we are kidding ourselves if we think that all will be well out there from now on. Afghanistan has been literally at war for forty years and more; it won't change overnight.

Fourty years only? Only the presence of the Brits in Afganistan stopped the tribal warfare since the Afghans had a common enemy to fight instead of themselves.

---"and more", Wilfried! You are right, of course.

When I lived on a tiny island, the people were always fighting with each other but when an outside force threatened, they banded together quite easily against the common foe. I guess that is tribal instinct.
