A French friend is coming over between Christmas and New Year. If he comes up to Derbyshire (which is probable), he would like to know of any accessible ceilidhs/ dances/ sessions etc. likely to come off between about 28th Dec and 5th January. Any news, please?

Theres a session every week at The Fishponds Matlock Bath on Sunday night.

There are a lot of very friendly open mic sort of things like Spondon Folk Club - every Tuesday at The Vernon Arms Locko Road Spondon, Derby.

not a million miles away is the great city of Sheffield with amazing session type events going on every night of the week - The Red House and fagan's are two pubs with websites and worth checking out. Try to get to the Red House when Patrick Walker is playing, a local lad with astonishing prowess on the fiddle and well loved by most.

In fact, take your pal to see Monsal head Viaduct(the pub there does Old Pekuliar) in the day and segue into Sheffield by night.
