Subject: BS: The start to a new year

My year started with the sound of consumerism (the modern religion). I'd gone upstairs with a pint mug of tea and an Ann McAffry book to reread. I knew it must be midnight by the bangs, no church bells these days. We live on the Cheshire Plain 8 miles from a town, but all round the horizon there were flashes, and the sound carried well! So I watched from my window for a bit.

The first living thing I saw this year was Pat-the-cat who wandered up to sleep against my legs, and came down with me this morning to be fed and help me feed the hens (just about light enough at 8). I can hear OH stirring, but daughter hasn't come to feed her horses yet.

The house starts the year as it will probably continue. Music spread on the table to practise for tonight's session, tapes and dance instructions stacked on the chair to prepare for a club dance I'm calling on Wednesday. And in the kitchen evidence of a DIY job that needs doing. The sink was leaking, but when Jim tried to fix it the plughole broke! I hope we don't go too long with a notice on our tap saying "Do not use this sink" but I expect there'll be something else when that's done. So when I'd fed the hens I turned on the computer to look for B&Q opening times.

And to wish my unseen friends a Happy New Year.

In some ways I envy you having family/pets/etc around you but there are advantages to being on my own. I can do things when I want, how I want and with whoever I want (by agreement of course) I also heard the banging of fireworks, the shouting of inebriated revellers, the destruction of parts on neighbours cars as the drunkards made their way home. Some of my neighbours, who always argue when they drink too much, enjoying their first New Years row. He smashed a window in his rage (although I suppose it could have been her).
The dog owned by the people at the end of the street was howling incessantly as a result of the fireworks and local children were taunting the old lady who lives upstairs from me....when I admnonished them I received a mouthful of abuse from them all....some as young as 6yrs old.
But all that was last night!!!!!
Happy New Year everyone.

had a crap day with my heart. Angina a lot of the day - I did too much the day before. Towards the evening it eased off.

I wrote a song about the painter Wassily Kandinsky . Wondered why his parents named him after a sexual lubricant. could have been worse - KY Jelly Kandinsky.

felt a bit upset about losing Dave the Gnome as a fellow mudcatter. Wrote a bit a bit about it. turned in.

Not so many fireworks - there was a spate of vandalism last year and the cops round here have no toleration if they meet up with inebriated puberty - whatever the day of the year, all goodwill to young wankers is completely used up. thank god for that.

woke up, feeling better. sunlight streaming through the back window
- made me think of the day I wrote this song

Happy new year folks

Don't remember much about the start of the New Year, but have graphic memories of the last day of the old one. We went to bed on December 30th and didn't close the door of the fridge/freezer properly. The air was blue for a fair proportion of yesterday.

Beautiful song, al! Thanks for posting it.

We stayed up until about 130a, watched Prairie Home Companion. We had let the old year out through the west windows earlier in the day. At the stroke of midnight we opened the front door, which faces east, and welcomed in 2007 and had a smooch. Heard just a faint echo of fireworks, but I don't think the two were related.**bg**

I put my book down about 2a, turned over and went to sleep until Rog's workplace phoned at 545a to say the transmitter was off. I burrowed down in bed more as he took care of it. Fortunately, he was able to reset it by phone, so it saved us a trip up the mountain, though it would have been lovely to see the sun rise on the new year.

We've a fairly quiet day ahead of us. Some family over, maybe. A little cleaning left to do and that's it.

Happy New Year!

My dog barked and ran around the house as firecrackers went off. I wish they wouldn't do that... it really stresses the animals.
Morning coffee, Mudcat chat, NPR radio news and then classical music, tried to call friends but eveyone's phone line is busy.
Happy 2007.
