It just sounds so thorough.

A few phrases I picked up from my mom:

"Ive got a great memory, but it's short." ;)

"That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!"

And one I came up with on my own (a variation of the first one):

"Oh, I've got a mind like a steel sieve."

I've also cribbed a few expressions from wonderful author Terry Pratchett, just because I thought they were funny as hell. My fellow Americans do look at me as though I'm, er, a few pickles short of a picnic, though:

"Arrrrgh! I'm too short for this shit!"

"Pull the other one, it's got bells on."

:)

Molly

You ARE a few pickels short of a picnic, man! Get a life, eh? Nobody reads them dumb books ennymore.

Here's my faverites:

FLIP OFF! UP YERS, BOLTHOLE! YOU FLIPPIN' RETREAD! EAT ME! She had a face like a flippin' dead owl! What the FLIP is that? Kiss the glove, fat boy! Hey, FLIPface! Right in the mungoberries! I'd flip her on a dime!

Well, those are some. I got others too, eh?

"Bank error in your favor, collect $200"
"No, just a warning this time." (Thank you officer!)
"My, what a wonderful painting!"

"Faster, faster, harder, harder." and Bob's your uncle

As a Brummie (born in Birmingham England for our American friends) this one really tickles my fancy

Brummangem screwdriver

Meaning A hammer.

Origin
The phrase has its source in the belief that people from the English West Midlands city of Birmingham (Brummagem) were unsophisticated and made crude goods - a predudice that persists in the UK today. Other places, notably Liverpool and Ireland, have suffered the same jibe more recently.
Brummagen is a slang version of Birmingham, which is a version of Bromwicham, itself a version of Brimidgeham, the old name for Birmingham. The Bromwicham form persists in the name of the town to the west of Birmingham - West Bromwich.

A phrase to be used when glimpsing a particularly attractive woman:

"She could have me - if she played her cards right."

And a phrase to be used when a male person has complimented, or attempted to 'chat up', a female person in a particularly unctuous and slimy manner:

"You're as smooth as two eels in a bucket of snot!"

'Buy one, get one free'... love that phrase.... especially when applied to chocolate bars.

If it's a movie phrase you want... 'Werewolf.' 'There wolf.' has me creased up and squeaking every time.. it's just one of those throwaways that rarely get a mention (like Michael Caine in 'Educating Rita' declaring he was going to call himself Mary Shelley - entire cinema turns in silence to stare at loudly guffawing blonde), but are worth the cinema entry or DVD purchase price.

Killed Another Keyboard Squirting Out Drink.

If we're going down the traffic sign route, there is one near me that says 'Pedestrians wait for green man'. Just behind that is a sign that says 'Green Man 1 mile'...
