I'm begining to understand what the late, great "Lonesome" George Gobel meant when he said, "Did you ever get the feeling that the world is a tuxedo and that you're a pair of brown shoes?"

Oh Noooooo I have missed a post cos my computer died and now my SS might be all cross but I am still being VERY VERY VERY good.

....and strangely poetic

Oh Secret Santa with the Aussie Obsession
In geography you'll teach me a lesson
Who knows where around the globe is home
Or on what continents you roam
Around this goodness I'll continue to flex
And then I'll find you dwell in Essex

Mmmm not quite up to your quality....ho hum

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santa Signals - 2005
From: Dave'sWife

Dear Santa:

I am simply overwhelmed with joy at having heard from you. I don't know how much you know about me so I'll tell you a bit.

My family is from The Irish bronx and of recent Emigration. We are a fairly musical family with everyone playing an instrument or four. I was born in NYC and lived there through 1990. I am now in exile in Los Angeles, having moved here when I sold a Screenplay in 1990. I kicked about the film Industry in various postions and my Husband is still employed that way. I got rather disgusted with it and settled down to a quiet life of working from home.

We have a rustic cottage in an old part of Hollywood. it was originally home to workers at the Charlie Chaplin Studios about 10 blocks away (now owned by A & M records and the scene of many music videos). Our cottage is a bit crumbly around the edges and we are always trying to fix it up one way or another. It was built in the 1920s which makes it quite old as Los Angeles is concerned but rather young to most Mudcatters.

I have no children sadly and so I have a dog, a big blonde Alsatian whose name is Dude, but we call him Puppers. I have a couple of cats in the cottage and one cat UNDER the cottage. Most homes like mine were built atop a four-cornered foundation so air can flow underneath in summer and keep things cool. INKY, my subterranian cat, rules the under-part of the cottage.

I love to garden and am currently embarking on a grand re-design of the front yard. I've just gotten a huge shipment of bulbs from Holland and we're digging trenches all along the fence to lay in the White & yellow Alliums I bought. I'm going to put center mounds of white oriental lillies.

I also LOVE to cook. I collect heirloom recipes that have been passed down within families. I often publish articles about food, cooking and ethnic Cuisine. I also collect antique and/or old cooking utinsels and gadgets. I recently got a 50 year old Potato masher that made me SO happy. My next quest is to get one of those Cherry Stoning machines you clamp onto your table edge. Nothing would make me happier than to recieve a recipe from YOUR family that is greatly cherished.

I am relatively new to Mudcat ads an active member, having only hung out here for a couple of years. I did not begin participating in full until last year some time. Therefore, any old Mudcat memorabelia would be so nice.

And... I am dying for a tape and/or CD of that "Beatnik Prevert" song about Hildebrants Chicago Bust.

Hows that?

Okay there's been some wandering by Santa and the head elf...
A little confusion, things left on the shelf
But a few cards should now be headed your way
As we finish preparations for the celebration day

On your side of the pond cocoa and cookies are not always left
and sherry and mince pie are more familiar instead.
But perhaps we'll have to ready you for this most special of nights
Prepare for Santa's sweet tooth with savory delights

Tradtions here call for nighties so new
Are you ready or naughty
Or perhaps both are true ????

SIGH! Every time I find the perfect gift for you, someone walks in here and says "NEAT! Can I have it?" and out it goes. At least one treasure has flown over the pond and resides not far from you. At this rate, I will be haunting the shopping malls on Christmas Eve.
Sorry, but it is better to give than receive, I've heard.

Well, Elmer, I may have been quiet for a while - pressures of business and so on, but...

Even as we speak, my elves are winging their way towards Kashmir to provide relief on your behalf, with a token from myself as well.

But so that you don't feel left out as all the other 'catters open their mysterious parcels, Rudolf and the other reindeer are, even as we speak, combing the aisles of the superstores and shopping malls to find a little something just for you...

No, I ain't your secret Santy but I have an online pressie for you. Go to the link below and you can play with a virtual Border Collie. You can even name her Meg and make her sing like Meg does. it's fun. Check it out:

Cyber-Border Collie

If you name her, the name shows up on her name tag and her snack bag. She can roll over, do sums for you and chase ladybugs.

Oh I just love these messages!!! And it's even funnier because I know who you all are!!!!

Bruauahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!

Seaking - your Santa is a frequent flyer but has chosen to follow the old adage of it being better to refrain from speaking and be thought a fool than to open their mouth and remove all doubt.

Micca - your Santa is not known for being quiet usually... I can only put it down to a penchant for wandering.

El Punkoid - your Santa is a lunatic. Sorry, it was the luck of the draw.

KatLaughing - you are a naughty girl and shall surely get what you deserve. : )

Elmer Fudd - your Santa has been hunting wabbits on your behalf but as it is now turkey season, should be turning their mind to other pursuits.

Charmion - your Santa is small of stature but big of volume, with the attention span of a gnat. You will get a present, but it may be more Easter Bunny time than Santa!

Cllr - your Santa is a rose amongst thorns and consequently is busy being adored.

Mooman - I am deeply, deeply sorry. It just happened that way.

and Stephen L Rich - same goes for you. I can give you the number of a good psychiatrist if you desire but he's usually busiest just after Christmas.

Secret Santa' flying minions strike again! (Sorry, this is the first chance I've had to post -- it was received in mailbox on Monday.)

The wee mermaid is WONDERFUL! I might put a pin back on her and wear her rather than walking around with my finger up her tush.

There was a, uh, scribbled "address" of sorts. Couldn't actually read it, though. And the machine-generated "stamp" is generic Great Britain. Hmmmm. (And the mermaid was made in China.)

Gotta run away to work (work work) .

Sorry Luv, I'm down with the flu. Seriously. I had wanted to wrap up some stuff and trundle it to the post. no trundling for me for a few days i'm afraid. Every time I sit up for more than 20 minutes my head feels as if it's going to explode. lemsip has been no help.

So, Cllr, if Carole won't tell me, maybe you can tell me what she likes to eat. I've crossed off the kangaroo Jerky from my list of prospective pressies.

tell me something about customs:

How specific ought we be about contents? If it's food, will it get held? if so, I would suppose food stuffs should all be in a separate box, eh?

What is Carole's Favorite colour?
Does she drink anything besdies Champagne?
If she were to get a plush animal toy, what type would she most likely want the most? For example, this SS likes Giraffes, Pandas and wolves. Does she have a favorite animal besides Cllr?

That's all for now - must go ice my head.

How's the frost going? Do let me know how you get on with the paperclips. We're having our second morning of decent frost here. The wildlife in the garden is preparing for the winter, old Mr Fox has been along for his breakfast. Seems his first choice is chasing squirrels, followed by catfood from his bowl, but he's left the slightly out-of-date raw sausages for later - obviously not impressed, maybe I should cook them?

Fairly unbelievable I know, but the other day a Peregrine Falcon landed on my washing line, though I didn't see it myself. Some guests are absolutely certain about it though & we all feel that the 'bird-lawn' is becoming very attractive.

With all my previous clues you must be close to rousting me, I reckon a fair few UK Catters have sussed it by now....

Dear Santa:

Joybell is sending me a CD of the Beatnik Prevert Song, so you don't have to go to any great lengths tryingfind a tape of it. Just thought you might like to know.

I do still want anything of Alaska Mikes though.

Did I mention I like Dahlias? Dahlia Tubers are kinda inexpensive and, if you live in the United States and have some in your yard, now's a great time to dig 'em up and seperate them for spring planting. So, if you DO live in the USA, and if you DO have Dahlia's in you yard, you could send me a tuber or 2 and I'd be a very happy Santee.

Actually, if you live in the USA, I'd love any seeds from your garden, especially herbs, mints, wildflowers, sunflowers and Milkweed. Yup, I said Milkweed. MY neighbor ripped out all my milkwood plants 2 years ago and the ppor monarchs have nothing to munch on when they stop over on their way to Mexico. Well, they do have some stuff to eat & but I could really use some Milkweed seeds. it's not the kinda thing you can get at the local OSH store.

Oh santa, do you like us to leave you cookies/biscuits on Christmas Eve or do you prefer Cheesecake brownies?

Scusa mia, caro mucio! It's so busy here in Tilling at the moment; Evie and Diva are busy sewing things for the padre's Christmas Fayre and Georgino is making the most exquisitely embroidered tea cosy. I'm driving around with Susan in the Rolls organizing everything - you must know the Wyses my dear - I think they have cousins out in Wyoming somewhere!
Well I have sent Grosvenor to the post office with a little card/clue for you - it really should be arriving any day now as it went by one of those flying machines

A little bird rode upon a snail into my snail-mailbox, flew out and landed upon my shoulder, and told me to get on the 'Cat because I have a very distressed Santa pulling out fur there. So here I am, Santa! I'm OK and I'm so sorry to have worried you. You would be quite justified in sending me the coal and corncobs that the bird said I might receive for having been bad -- what could be worse than stressing out Santa?!? Please forgive me; I hang my head in shame and pray for Santabsolution.

You see, I have no internet access at home and must use computers at the local public libraries to visit Mudcat. Very often, I find that I can't open the Forum or threads -- in fact, today I can't open every page of this thread, but luckily I can open some of the pages. So, while I have the chance and before I get the "this page cannot be read" message again, I'll answer your questions about my likes and dislikes:

First and foremost, I like cats! I like anything that has anything to do with cats! I have a cat! Wish I could have more, but one is all I can afford right now, so please don't send kittens (much as I wish you could).

I like T-shirts and sweatshirts. In fact, I've been on a diet and I need clothing in my new size: Large.

I like info/postcards/books about the folklore of my Santa's area, especially unusual buildings (ever see the book "Weird US"? Stuff like that). I live near Doylestown PA, where the eccentric Henry Chapman Mercer built what are described as "concrete castles" 100 years ago, so I'm intrigued by similar eccentricities in other towns.

I like CD's by singer-songwriters who are humorists! (I am one myself.) Among my favorites are Wisconsin's Lou and Peter Berryman; they have just put out a new CD that I haven't bought yet. Already have all of Dierdre Flint's and Dan Hart's CDs but that might give you an idea of my tastes. Reaching back in time, I love Tom Lehrer's songs but I already have the complete library of his stuff. Also fond of Spike Jones and I have his Christmas CD but no others. If you know of any singer-songwriter-humorists local to your area, I'd love to be introduced to their music!

Dislikes include rap, angry-or-morose-singer-songwriter music, and chimpanzees. I have sarcoidosis so I cannot receive anything with a fragrance (like candles, potpourri or cologne). I also have a history of colitis and I have so many diet restrictions that it's best not to send food.

I think that covers the main points! I remember that we used to have to fill out a Secret Santa questionnaire, and I did so a couple of times (check my archives), but I forget all the questions. One of them was the Santee's age: I am 49, if that helps. I'll hit the Big Five-O (or it will hit me) next June. But I already have a cane, thanks!

Now, let's see if the library will let me send this post...

Yes, we had our first heavy frost this week. I think this weekend I'll pull up a Google map, then put the girls (Cinnamon and Poppy) on their leashes and go for a walk in the woods!

Thank ye kindly, O Santa Mio!

I've been doing some hard travelling on the long and winding road of late, but just took off my thirsty boots, booted up and got your happy message. I'm still trying to be good (but when I'm bad, I'm better, as Mae West once said) so as to deserve your kind attentions.

Grazie, Merci, Danke, Dhanyavad, Gracias, yada yada yada.....

Your ever lovin' Santee,

Elmer
