Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Georgiansilver Date: 10 May 04 - 05:06 AM I will be there as always and will try not to stop folks leaving when the skiffle starts...Be Blessed |
|
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 10 May 04 - 10:59 AM Oops Georgiansilver, thought you said Skiffle Tarts! People leave because we finish at 11.30 (as requested by the management) and the skiffle doesn't start until after that! Don't want to upset the staff! Maybe if the skiffler arrived at the start (like the rest of us)instead of halfway through the night...............he's not called The Midnight Cowboy for nothing? Johnny :0) |
|
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 10 May 04 - 11:11 AM Surely thats not skiffle that he plays. You need a washboard and a wooden box with strings in it for the base. He tries to be a Donavan or Bob Dylan and I don't class them as skiffle. Surely the best skiffle group was Lonnie Donegan and he is nothing like that. Maybe he should be made to do a 3 number floorspot at the beginning or be banned from playing for ever. |
|
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 10 May 04 - 11:13 AM It's the nearest description I could think of, Villan! And yes, Lonnie was the King of Skiffle. RIP. Johnny :0) |
|
Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 10 May 04 - 11:26 AM Thats Ok then Strollin', as long as we don't start insulting Lonnie :-) Its a bit like classifying Arsenal and Gainsborough Trinity as the same (Football Club is the only thing they have in common):-) |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Georgiansilver Date: 10 May 04 - 01:18 PM I can only apologise yet again for last weeks hold up. Had I realised that I was holding people up then I would have quickly moved, and John, had I realised the depth of feeling being stirred, I would not have been part of the problem.....Sorry! Be Blessed |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Georgiansilver Date: 11 May 04 - 10:19 AM I believe that Lucy and Paul have a bright future on the Folk scene and should be encouraged in whatever way we can. Don't forget folks...if you are anywhere near Gainsborough on Friday evening at around 8.30 onwards and want some good Folk entertainment...come to the Eight Jolly Brewers...upstairs room for a sing around(or just to watch) and Be Blessed. |

Got me G7th ordered from Noel Sheehan (one of the guys involved with the design), getting excited now! Looking forward to doing a few for you on the 18th July, (don't forget my spot!) and supporting Lucy & Paul, although compared to the highly talented and lovely Lucy I'm very much the Beast (as in Beauty and the...!). Georgian - you've caught me out there, did something happen after I left last time?????? Johnny :0) :0) |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 11 May 04 - 11:36 AM Were the pictures Ok of Lucy and Paul Breezy? Breezy, I don't think you want a piccie of Strollin's belly button :-), but I suppose I could take one of it (if he lets me) when I am at Gainsborough Folk Club on Friday and send it you :-) You've got a great guy for a 20 minute spot there Breezy. All you need now is Stitherum (mr and mrs Sooze)on the same night - another very good act, who of course run the Gainsborough Club. Both Strollin and Mr and Mrs Sooze will be appearing as guest artists at Market Rasen in the near future, and have given me fantastic support to get my club up and running. |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 11 May 04 - 11:36 AM Can't remember the title, but it was a 'Going home' or 'Leaving' kind of song with some nice twiddly guitar-bits, from the new CD. I haven't got the CD but I've heard Sooz's copy. Nice. Looking forward very much to coming down. Not sure if I've got a photo that the world would be ready for! If my belly button was in focus, the rest of me would be so far away from the camera it'd just be a blur! Anyway, it's hidden behind me guitar (thank God!). Johnny :0) |

A lady I know name of SOOZ, Who I know likes a wee drop of booze. To our Folk Club will go, come rain hail or snow. Or might just stay at home for a snooze. I also know someone called Villan, Who listens I hear to Bob Dylan. His favourite stuff, is belly button fluff. (Do you think he might need penicillin?) Another friend who we call John, Has a belly with fluff growing on. And when Les is about, there is really no doubt, It's that fluff that he "focusses" on. Be Blessed all. |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 13 May 04 - 10:12 AM There was a skilffler called Lonnie Whose lyrics were sometimes quite funny He kept on singing about my old man being a dustman But he wasn't, he was a busman He wanted a pub with no beer But Sooze thought that was a bit queer So she said come to the Eight Jolly Brewers Where you can drink real ales here Strollin' agreed with our Sooz Do come and try our booze We open on Friday the 14th You won't see our Sooz cuase she is having a snooze But georgian silver says "be blessed all" To think that Lonnie would come here, what gall You just be happy and listen to the chappy who plays at the end of it all |

Subject: RE: Gainsborough Folk Club Friday 14/5/2004 From: Rasener Date: 14 May 04 - 05:05 AM I can say this in all honesty. Gainsborough Folk Club is a very friendly environment with lots of good humoured patter, and above all Mr and Mrs Sooz have built up a club that would be the envy of most, with a bunch of local excellent singers. They encourage anybody to sing or spout verse etc, and if it hadn't been for them Lucy and Paul would probably not be where they are today. They also have a lot of very loyal listeners. I really enjoy going along and listening and keep on coming away, amazed at the quality of local Lincolnshire folkies. |
