People leave because we finish at 11.30 (as requested by the management) and the skiffle doesn't start until after that! Don't want to upset the staff! Maybe if the skiffler arrived at the start (like the rest of us)instead of halfway through the night...............he's not called The Midnight Cowboy for nothing?

Surely thats not skiffle that he plays.
You need a washboard and a wooden box with strings in it for the base.
He tries to be a Donavan or Bob Dylan and I don't class them as skiffle.
Surely the best skiffle group was Lonnie Donegan and he is nothing like that.
Maybe he should be made to do a 3 number floorspot at the beginning or be banned from playing for ever.

Saw a lot of the artists at the Moor and Coast festival - enjoyed it very much.
Saw Lucy and Paul perform twice. Saw Molly and Sue who came to watch them at the Endeavour pub.

I believe that Lucy and Paul have a bright future on the Folk scene and should be encouraged in whatever way we can.
Don't forget folks...if you are anywhere near Gainsborough on Friday evening at around 8.30 onwards and want some good Folk entertainment...come to the Eight Jolly Brewers...upstairs room for a sing around(or just to watch) and Be Blessed.

Lucy and Paul have been invited to play at the Young Tradition Festival in Derby by Mick Peat, as well as playing at the Filey Festival 30th July to 1st August, possibly at the Whitby Festival in August, Guest Artist at St Albans on July 18th, as well as support artist at Market Rasen Folk Club when Bill Whaley and Dave Fletcher are on and as Guest artist at same club on August 13th. :-)

We have some pictures of Lucy and Paul on display in readiness for their St Albans 'Spotlight' club appearance on Sunday 18th July

Our club meets at the British Legion on Verulam Road in St Albans, herts every Sunday with a 'Spotlight' guest each week
This week its Rosa's Daughters, n/w Mike Sparks

Doors open at 7.30 and starts at 7.45 and continues with 10 min floor spots till 9.55 when then 'Spotter' goes on till 10.35.
Its a good idea to ring first if you are coming and wish to perform.

The prog for Lucy and Paul's visit is nearly complete!!!

we have a short interval, adm is £3 for everyone + £1 raffle

audience numbers have reached over 20 recently!!!!

The standard of performance is very good but we do encourage all to perform.

Heckling is acceptable behaviour.

Looking forward to some sampler C D

Heard it Breezy. Mick and me mate Lester seemed very impressed, as was I. Got me G7th ordered from Noel Sheehan (one of the guys involved with the design), getting excited now!

You've got a great guy for a 20 minute spot there Breezy.

All you need now is Stitherum (mr and mrs Sooze)on the same night - another very good act, who of course run the Gainsborough Club.

Both Strollin and Mr and Mrs Sooze will be appearing as guest artists at Market Rasen in the near future, and have given me fantastic support to get my club up and running.

Can't remember the title, but it was a 'Going home' or 'Leaving' kind of song with some nice twiddly guitar-bits, from the new CD. I haven't got the CD but I've heard Sooz's copy. Nice.

Looking forward very much to coming down. Not sure if I've got a photo that the world would be ready for! If my belly button was in focus, the rest of me would be so far away from the camera it'd just be a blur! Anyway, it's hidden behind me guitar (thank God!).

Another friend who we call John,
Has a belly with fluff growing on.
And when Les is about, there is really no doubt,

I can say this in all honesty.
Gainsborough Folk Club is a very friendly environment with lots of good humoured patter, and above all Mr and Mrs Sooz have built up a club that would be the envy of most, with a bunch of local excellent singers. They encourage anybody to sing or spout verse etc, and if it hadn't been for them Lucy and Paul would probably not be where they are today.
They also have a lot of very loyal listeners.
I really enjoy going along and listening and keep on coming away, amazed at the quality of local Lincolnshire folkies.
