Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: jaze Date: 16 May 07 - 03:05 PM Well, he must have done something right. I worked with his daughter and found her to be one of the kindest, most compassionate MD's I've ever known. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Ebbie Date: 16 May 07 - 03:07 PM I've never understood the implicit interdiction of 'speaking no evil' of the recently dead. To me, that hour, that moment, seems an excellent time to speak truth. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Rapparee Date: 16 May 07 - 09:52 PM I wondered where he would be put, and checked with Dante. With the hypocrites? The heretics? No. I think that he is in Cocytus, Round Two (Antenora). |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Peace Date: 16 May 07 - 10:02 PM We will miss him. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Rapparee Date: 16 May 07 - 10:30 PM I think that he'll find an eternity with others like himself: Pierre de Lancre, Father Charles Coughlin, Theodore Bilbo, Pope Alexander VI, J. Edgar Hoover, Breckinridge Long, Joseph McCarthy, Cecil Rhodes, and Tomas de Torquemada, to name but a few. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Peace Date: 16 May 07 - 11:38 PM "Let me be the first to say: I ALWAYS agreed with the Rev. Falwell." Ann Coulter There isn't much more to say about the man, is there! |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: alanabit Date: 17 May 07 - 02:52 AM I can't help noticing that over the past year the Grim Reaper has carted off Saddam Hussein, Augusto Pinochet and now Jerry Falwell. No doubt other riff raff will arise to replace them. Still, I hope that a few other bullies and tyrants are feeling less comfortable now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Donuel Date: 17 May 07 - 11:15 AM Good ol Jerry knew how to make a buck. Gerry gave a TV sermon which included the remark that Bill Clinton was a murderer and provided evidence in the form of a list of 234 people that Clinton had killed. When asked in provate if he believed if Clinton was actually murderer Falwell said "heavens no, I was just selling something for someone." It may have been slander for cash but ya gotta admit that Jerry was honest about it...in private. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Ebbie Date: 17 May 07 - 11:54 AM Question: How do we know what Falwell said in private? |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Donuel Date: 17 May 07 - 12:36 PM During the Diane Reams show today a minister was telling of his experiences with Jerry Falwell. It was a revealing show, so if you need names and dates I sugest you look it up on NPR.org |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Stringsinger Date: 17 May 07 - 05:06 PM You may not want to speak ill of the dead but the hypocrisy there is that we think ill of the dead. Personally, I think Falwell is in Heaven doing the polka with William Rehnquist. "I vas not a Nazi Polka".................................... |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Riginslinger Date: 17 May 07 - 06:41 PM "...so if you need names and dates I sugest you look it up on NPR.org" NPR has been full of Bible Thumpers lately. It's disgusting. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Ebbie Date: 17 May 07 - 06:43 PM Well, since I don't believe in hell and tend to believe in the sanctity and educability of Spirit, I picture him as penitent and wondering how he got it so wrong... And if that sounds too utterly sanctimonious, may I add that I hope he's suffering. :) |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Riginslinger Date: 17 May 07 - 07:59 PM It's funny, people like that seem like it never occurrs to them for a minute that they might be wrong when they're alive. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Ebbie Date: 17 May 07 - 09:30 PM I still wonder what they think about during a sleepless night. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Amos Date: 17 May 07 - 09:43 PM Oh, how to get ahead of all their wicked enemies, I imagine. It's funny. I have not been widely influential, but I have met thousands of peopel in my life and as far as I know I don't have one really wicked enemy. I guess I'm not trying hard enough!! :D A |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: GUEST Date: 18 May 07 - 01:10 AM Let's see, we are glad he's dead because he was full of hate, and we know he was full of hate, because he condemned certain behaviors as being wrong, and we condemn that sort of thing because, you know, it's wrong. And we know for a fact that he was wrong about heaven and hell and God because no one can know those things. And of course he was judgmental and so he deserves to go to hell. Oh yeah, and he was a hypocrite. Kent Davis |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Amos Date: 18 May 07 - 01:53 AM +++BG+++, Kent. I believe, fundamentally, he did more harm than good in the world, from what I have seen. But I have only seen a small slice of Falwell, which is about all I cared to see. Hitchens was remarkable. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Naemanson Date: 18 May 07 - 11:34 PM I feel the same way about Falwell as I did about Richard Nixon. I'm sure he thought he was doing the right thing. Unfortunately I also think Falwell's idea of the "right thing" was to make money. He preached the word of Jesus but he did not seem to live it. He carried the Bible but he did not seem to really believe in the words inside, at least, not the New Testament. He used on the words that would promote HIS agenda, not God's. So, as with Nixon, I am satisfied that he can no longer directly influence modern society. If that makes me a hypocrite, then so be it. I just want to know he is planted and gone. As for "HIS agenda, not God's" I believe anyone who promotes and pushes for war and killing is NOT following that most simple of commandments, "Thou shalt not kill." How simple can it be? Four words, no subclauses. |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit Jerry Falwell (15 May 2007) From: Rapparee Date: 19 May 07 - 11:01 AM "Treat others as you would have them treat you." "Put up your sword, for those who live by the sword will perish by it." "Don't kill unnecessarily." "Give away all that own and follow me." "Blessed are the poor." WTF? Can this get any simpler? |
