I've just been watching an amazing film on Channel Four (in the UK) Here is a website about it - We Are Together

Quite extraordinary singing from a bunch of South African children, and a really powerful and moving film. Don't take my word for it - click on the link there and listen to it. And get to see the film if you can. It's still on Channel Four on Demand, if you can get that. And there's a DVD. It's early to be thinking of Christmas Presents, but I think I'll be sending the DVD or CD to one or two people I know.

Thanks for sharing this information. I am definitely going to purchase this DVD and CD. And I will let others know about this them.

I'm wondering if a moderator would add {South African film/CD to the title so more people will know about it.

Good idea. I tend to open threads on the basis of not knowing what they are about, and feeling curious, but I suppose lots of people like to know what they are opening in advance...

That is just terrific, McGrath! Thanks for the links!

I have been reading No. 1 Ladies Detective series by Alexander McCall Smith which takes place in Botswana. He tells so much about the country and its culture, through his very endearing characters; one particular orphanage figures as a mainstay in them. They are really GOOD books I would highly recommend.

They are really great little books aren't they? The BBC made a film of the first book, and a series based on the books is on the way.

Yes, they are! I'd love to see the film and the series. I couldn't get the clips to play for me. Netflix doesn't list the film, yet. I will put in a request that they carry it. Thanks!

Here is a snippet on YouTube of Precious Ramotswe and Mma Mma Makutsi from the BBC film.

Mind, that film is really enjoyable - but the one of the Children of Agape is something else again. (And one of the children is called Precious, I just noticed from the video I copied. from the broadcast.)
