Subject: Lyr Add: SPRING SONG (Alan Bell) From: Jim Dixon Date: 02 Jun 13 - 08:52 PM SPRING SONG As sung by Alan Bell on "The Definitive Collection" (2005) 1. Early one evening as I strolled along, I heard a girl singing an old country song To welcome the new days, the coming of spring, The bleak winter over, new life to begin. CHORUS: Love is a pleasure; love is a pain. Love is desire to share yet again The sweetness of caring, the joy and the tears, Love everlasting, enduring the years. 2. She sang it so sweetly; she sang it so fine, I thought of my own life and all that was mine, For having and holding are better than dreams, And lucky in love means more than it seems. 3. A time comes for living; a time comes for love, And spring is a good time to give all you have, For seasons will come and so quickly roll on, But spring brings that young girl to sing the old song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwg1hwtKXiA |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spring Song (Alan Bell) From: bradfordian Date: 16 Apr 17 - 06:30 AM Here is an additional verse which has been sung for several years by someone I know at one of my folk clubs. I finally noted these words but as to the provenance, I don't have any information. If anyone does, please share! "I left her still singing that beautiful song I hope she will find her own love before long To share all the good days, the summers for years The sweetness of caring, the joys and the tears" |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spring Song (Alan Bell) From: leeneia Date: 26 May 20 - 06:26 PM Now I remember - the tune is one I first heard as a German folk song, 'Rosmarin Heide.' I have transcribed the tune, and if any trusted Mudcatters want a JPG of the melody and chords, they can PM me. I called it Spring Song. I think that if I were going to sing this song, I would invent a second theme for alternate verses. This theme gets repetitious, I think. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Spring Song (Alan Bell) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 26 May 20 - 06:36 PM Sorry Leeneia, I was responding to GUEST Eileen Finch's request for the lyrics of "The Boy and the Dream". I guess she would do better to start a new "Lyrics Request" thread to get the song she wants. |
