3 members of Piva were at Chester Folk Festival last weekend. An was involved with the singing, ran a good harmony workshop (and other things that I didn't get to). And Jane & Eric Moulder led workshops to play Playford tunes, and gave a presentation about making instrument (so now I know how a crumhorn gets bent).
And for those who missed them then they will be in Cheshire again in June at Little Moreton Hall
Newcastle Rd
Congleton CW12
UK
On 22nd & 23rd as part of the Midsummer event
"
11:00-16:00
Experience the Tudor festival that gives thanks for the sunshine & water that nourishes the crops. Dancing, activities & live music from Piva."
And an evening concert on 27th

Do they do a lot of Slavic beer songs?

I just listened to a few pieces by them. They are lovely. I too wish them well. And yes, I think they are folk.

I think they are folk too - mainly because I dance to a lot of tunes published by Playford in the C17.
Or maybe it's all just MUSIC

They did explain where the name came from, but beer wasn't mentioned.
I think 6 & 7 on the Wiki list of meanings came into it.

Jack was thinking of pivo, which gets you a beer almost anywhere in Eastern Europe.

Hi, Mo. Thanks for the link. I'd never heard of a dance called the piva before.
