Picked up a gadget that sits on the guitar, and lets you hammer the strings.

It's all there except for 4 tiny machine screws with an allen screw fixing. Can't find anything locally. Any ideas?

It has six rubber hammers on a frame, the spacing of the hammers is the same as the string spacing

The idea is that the frame is fastened to the edges of the fingerboard close to the body so when you tap the hammer it hits the string. Makes the guitar sound piano-ish. The frame is clamped to the edges of the fingerboard by small screws, so that it's removable.

Does that make sense? :'

Ah!! Thanks. Definitely would want to make it removeable -- if it were permanent you'd lose a perfectly good guitar! As to the small machine screws, I would scout around the web for a firm that can deliver them by post, if local resources won't serve -- I doin't know where you are, though.

Thanks for clarifying!

when was this contraption manufactured?
sounds like an invention from times gone by..
there is a device these days that uses a
small magnet to vibrate the string
which allows a sustained tone without
plucking or stumming...one string at a time.
It is called an ebow
.
