Subject: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: Jeep man Date: 21 Dec 04 - 11:07 PM My computer uses my phone line to connect to AOL. Occasionally I forget to turn it off after being online. This interrupts my phone until I remember and turn it off. Question, Can I set up AOL to turn off automatically after say 20 minutes with no activity? Jim |

Subject: RE: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: Amos Date: 21 Dec 04 - 11:21 PM I think you need to log out at the end of every AOL session, Some modem applications used to have a parameter fro disconnecting if no activity after xx minutes. You'd be better off, for these purposes, with an always-on DSL or cable-modem service. Faster throughput to, if you can get it where you are. A |

Subject: RE: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: michaelr Date: 22 Dec 04 - 02:37 AM I will not allow any "always-on" internet connection on my PC because it leaves you vulnerable to hackers/viruses/trojans/etc etc... Log out when you're done online, and turn your computer off. Get CallWave Internet Answering Machine so you don't miss calls while online. Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: Tattie Bogle Date: 22 Dec 04 - 07:14 PM Until we get a new phone point put in or go wireless, we have to disconnect the DSL modem lead, or risk accidents, as it trails thro' the dining room and across the hall to the phone socket miles away! I had to go all over town to find a lead long enough (Comet had one in the end!) Off to bed, disconnecting very soon! TB |

Subject: RE: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: artbrooks Date: 22 Dec 04 - 07:41 PM I'd try tech support at AOL. There may well be an utility within their system. |

Subject: RE: Tech: How to turn off AOL From: Jim McLean Date: 23 Dec 04 - 12:45 PM I have a HSP56 modem which I used to use for AOL (I have broadband now) and under 'default preferences' there is a facility to 'disconnect call if idle for more than..' |
