hi all , another eruption , a new one .
uner the icecap of Eyjafjallaglacier .
800 people have to leave their homes .
water is rising in the rivers slowly though ..

so let s hope it keeps that way ...if we get floods to the ocean
I might have to leave in a hurry ..

but I am easy until then :O)

Authorities are closely monitoring the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers in Iceland following a rare volcanic eruption in the country over the weekend that forced the evacuation of hundreds of people. Scientists have engaged in aerial surveys of the region to see if residents may return. Molten lava spewed from a rupture of the Katla volcano near the Eyjafjallajokull glacier over the weekend, as seen in the video below. RUV news in Iceland reported small earthquakes near the volcanic eruption early Monday, but worldwide earthquake data from the U.S. Geological Survey failed to confirm the activity. Katla is considered one of the most dangerous volcanos in Iceland and authorities, according to news reports, have a safety plan in place should it go off.

Hope it all settles down Skarpi.

Just seen the news on BBC UK this morning and all flights seem to have been cancelled today in Scotland due to the volcanic ash floating over the UK. They are now saying that litterally every airport in England and Wales will face bid disruption.

So anybody picking people up from airports should keep an eys out.

Seems like Shiphol (Amsterdam) and Belgium are also affected.

If I was living say on the Maledives, such an eruption could could hardly be too strong for its benefical effect on global warming.

But for the real me, I hope my flight to Iceland will not have to be cancelled.

Stay safe, Skarpi. A Jökulhlaup would not be a major threat with enough warning time, but an eruption covering Iceland in ashes would be.

Thanks for all the blickys - I wonder if My Mum and sister will have to stay much longer in Germany before returning to Edinburgh. The knock-on effect on travellers is enormous.

The eruption cancelled today's flight of Mudcatter Brian Peters to the United States, and he's already had to cancel his first gig (at Shepherdstown, WV on Friday night). Until the eruption stops and air traffic resumes, we're awaiting Brian's arrival with uncertainty as to when he can fly--

So the volcano is having a direct effect on music and Mudcatters!

The Finns have 55 F18s?! I had no idea they were into that kinda weaponry. There's only about 5.5M people in Finland, right? That would be one F-18 for every 100,000 Finns. They must really not like Russians.
