Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bill D Date: 16 Jun 10 - 06:03 PM ..... I consider myself most fortunate that Amos has come to the Getaway the last few years, and that I am able to hear the wide variety of music he does- more than just 'competently'. ☺ Thanks Amos...and thanks, Dan, for putting those up. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 16 Jun 10 - 06:20 PM You are most welcome my friend, my pleasure, great great music |

Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 16 Jun 10 - 07:07 PM Well, McGrath, that's why it a Reserve Fund...just in case. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 16 Jun 10 - 07:34 PM Well, couple things... First of all I'm a little concerned that my vasectomy need maintenance??? I mean, I thought it was good fir life??? But now it looks as if I gotta re-up... That is bothersome... I mean, they said it was a piece of cake the last time but... ...the day I went to get it there was a bomb threat at the clinic and then, rather than have one nurse oversee the doctor doin' the chop on poor ol' mee it seems like every danged nurse within a hundred miles was in there and... ...well, when yer about to get "chopped" ain't like Mr. Happy is too happy... No, might of afct, he's purdy unhappy and you know what that means??? Yeah, friggin' shrinkage!!! Now here I was with what looked like a couple hundred womenz watchin' an' all I could think was, "This is purdy dfanged embarassin'... I mean, come on Mr. Happy... Just do a little poke yer head up but, no!!! He just pouted and there were probably a couple hundred women who went home that day thinkin', "Glad to be going home to Ralph or Charlie or..." Then they said that in a day 'er two the pain a swelling would go away... Bull!!! It was two friggin' weeks!!! I don't want to talk about this no more so if I gotta go fir a maintance procedure then count me out... If it's so wonderful then whoever thinks its a great idea can just go in fir me... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 16 Jun 10 - 10:58 PM Well Bobster, reminds me of the story of my buddie Gary's brother. He got his pants caught in a PTO shaft of a tractor and it ripped Mr. Happy right off. Well in the hospital the docs sewed him back on .. Well while he was a healin Mr. Happy swelled up to the size of a horses Mr. Happy ... well I tell ya there was a line of nurses coming in every 5 minutes to check the surgery ... I could hear them laughin in the hall about the mammoth size Mr. Happy on the guy in room 202. Well anyway he claims it healed up and works fine but his wife was disappointed it didn't stay that size |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 17 Jun 10 - 12:44 AM Dang, man...this thread really went off on a phallic tangent, so to speak. Bobert is clearly implying something... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Severn Date: 17 Jun 10 - 03:17 PM Then Amos back in the right direction..... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: PoppaGator Date: 17 Jun 10 - 05:38 PM ...I read "vasectomy reserve" nas "vasectomy reversal"... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Janie Date: 17 Jun 10 - 05:54 PM Well, I was gonna make a complimentary remark, something to the effect that I slip Amos into the hard drive regularly, it is about time some one got Amos up on the internet, more exposure, etc.... but now I am affeared of bein' mistooken..... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Little Hawk Date: 17 Jun 10 - 07:01 PM I just listened to a couple of your tunes, Amos. They sound great. You have a very mellow and tender-sounding voice, full of heartfelt emotion. Good stuff. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 17 Jun 10 - 07:32 PM Wal, shucks and golly is about all I can say. I am grateful to Dan for going that extra mile! I am having a bunch of this CD printed tonight so those who have asked shall receive soon. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 17 Jun 10 - 08:09 PM Whew, glad to be off Mr. Happy and back onto Mr. Amos... Sorry, I musta started this drift... (No, Boberdz, you didn't...) Okay,,, Yeah, Amos is one fine folkie musican... I can attest to that myself having heard him live and close-up... He obviously been around this stuff (music) fir awile... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 17 Jun 10 - 09:28 PM Bobster started it he did, it was his fault... hey make sure ya hear Amos doing winter's night with you, i like it better than Gord |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: frogprince Date: 17 Jun 10 - 09:55 PM Amos...damn, that stuff is good! I didn't know until now that The Rose was supposed to be a cowboy song. I was trying to think who, of the "known" voices I was hearing; not to take away from the fact that you have your own voice, and do it your way, but I think I heard something of John Stewart. I think maybe the world needs to hear a bit of Amos and Dan harmonizing. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: bseed(charleskratz) Date: 18 Jun 10 - 07:06 PM Amos, I always knew you had it in you, the way you cranked 'em out in the song competitions--now I know you have the vocal and guitar chops to do your words the service they deserve. I'd love to have one of your CDs. I'll send you my address via PMS (the personal message system, not God's punishment for the apple thing). Charles |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: kendall Date: 18 Jun 10 - 07:25 PM Amos, can I pick with you at the Getaway? |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 19 Jun 10 - 09:20 AM "And the songs I'm use to hearing, ain't the one's the jukebox plays so I'm heading back home - to my Sweet Wyoming Home" Now a lesson to other Catters, No more of the closet pickin fer you folks. Too darn many great great musicians like Amos who are hiding under the radar ... I will find you !! Oh yes I will find you ... :-) no more hiding ... POST your music |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 19 Jun 10 - 10:13 AM Kendall, it is always my honor to play with you. I got the product and am shipping this weekend. Tell Bobert! :>) A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Art Thieme Date: 19 Jun 10 - 10:22 AM Amos, From all I've seen of and from you up on this Mudcat site over the years, all that Dan says is not a surprise. Way to go! Art |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 19 Jun 10 - 11:09 AM Dang, Art, that means a lot. Thank you so much. All this applause is making me shy!! A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 19 Jun 10 - 12:03 PM Nothing to be shy about bro, You earned it ... see when anyone is given a gift of music, folks can come out of the closet and more importantly , can do some good things with it. A few weeks ago I sold over 2000 dollars in CD's. The songs I wrote so I would not step on anyone's license. Every single penny went to the food pantry that was running pretty low because of the state of our economy and the mass of people in need. It wasn't at all about me, it was about them ... When folks are given a gift of music ... you can do some really good things with it ... right ... so come out of the closet folks and get playing ... but get playing for someone else ... ok .. you can do a lot of good things for others with your music. And this place is full of great music writer, performers and everything else in between ... Dan |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: GUEST,kendall Date: 19 Jun 10 - 06:53 PM You may run from Old Dude, but you can't hide. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 19 Jun 10 - 07:36 PM Oldster... You need to come to the Getaway... Not only will get to hear Amos but, hey, you'll get to hear one shit load of other good musicans... I mean, I loves Amos like my brother but, inspite of word on the street, there are lotta good pickers out there in the world... Come down to Galax or Floyd, Va. fir some of them pick-ins and you'll have yer head completely blown off by the shere number of people who can flat out pick geetars... I mean, flat out pick 'um... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 19 Jun 10 - 10:28 PM I would love to Bob, my biggest problem is there is only so much time I can be away from work and I been trying to do the grand baby thing and see the kids whenever I can ... that always leaves me short of time and travel money ... I will see what I can do ... I would love it Dan |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 20 Jun 10 - 09:33 AM Heck, Oldster... Bring the grand youngins with ya'... The Getaway is right on the water... They'll love it... As fir work??? Hey, quit!!! Plus, the Getaway is on the weekend... You can fly into Dulles or National and someone will pick you up... It works that way... Heck, if ya' want you can take a few days off and stay a couple right here in Pine Grove Holler before of after the G-away... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: GUEST,kendall Date: 20 Jun 10 - 12:06 PM Dan, you had better have a damn good excuse for turning him down! |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 20 Jun 10 - 12:25 PM That's right... Hey, I'll pick yer butt up at the airport and drive yer butt to the G-Away... I'll even play yer geetar fir ya if ya' want... I mean, What more do ya' want me to do??? Rent a Cesna and come pick yer butt up??? B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Jun 10 - 12:39 PM What good would it do to have his butt there? He can't play the guitar without his fingers. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 20 Jun 10 - 03:15 PM The butt bone connected to the finger bone... The butt bone connected to the finger bone... No butt, no fingers, LH... Sheesh... Now I gotta explainerate human astrolatemy to ya'??? Here's what ya' do, Oldster... Ya' Google up "Cheap Flights" or "Obitz" and ya' type in the flight ya' need and when an' you'll be surprised how cheap the flights are... Heck, they practically pay you to get on them planes... Sho nuff do... Whadayathink Amos does??? And he has to fly all the way from the left coast... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Jun 10 - 03:33 PM I'm just tired of people telling someone to get their "butt" over somewhere when they actually mean they want the whole person over there. I don't understand this fixation on butts that has taken over the American vernacular. It's stupid. Same goes for the popular expression "kick ass", which is even stupider. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 20 Jun 10 - 08:25 PM Which reminds me, LH... Get yer butt down to a Getaway, yerownbutts self... And take a couple Geritol for yer tiredness... 'Er a plate of freashly boiled spinich... And... ...no butts about it... b~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 20 Jun 10 - 08:47 PM LOL ,, ok guy I will do my best ok :-) |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Stilly River Sage Date: 20 Jun 10 - 09:12 PM "Metonymy" is the word you're looking for, Little Hawk. It's a figure of speech, the use of the name of one thing for that of another of which it is an attribute or with which it is associated. Butt for body, crown for the king, sails for ship, etc. Dan, you're not the only one getting travel advice and planning via Mudcat members this year. After all, a few of them have managed to arrange to ship Max over to England for a visit. Amos, the songs sound great! SRS |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 20 Jun 10 - 09:53 PM lol ok guys i will try my best u make me smile Dan |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jun 10 - 02:16 AM Well, now, that was fun. I sat here and listened to every Amos song Dan posted. Good stuff. I know most of the songs but there are several unfamiliar ones that are haunting. 'Kind of Love', for instance- I could look it up, no doubt, but it's more fun to ask: Where does that song come from? In certain settings and after a glass or two that one would be a first rate tear jerker. No regrets but some things you never forget... Amos, I listened to it only once so on second listen I might change my mind but I thought 'The Rose' had a bit of a shaky start. But when you got into it, it was superb. I really like your interpretation. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 21 Jun 10 - 10:35 AM "Kind of Love" is by Christine Lavin. It is a pow'ful piece of work. "Running Waters" is mine. I should post the credits to all those songs. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 21 Jun 10 - 11:24 AM Little Hawk has never kicked ass, or he would understand the exquisite appropriateness of that particular metonymy. "Reading Shakespeare", "counting heads", "turning loose a bunch of suits", "London reports panic..." are all examples of the same poetic license. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: GUEST,kendall Date: 21 Jun 10 - 01:00 PM LH, your presence is requested at the Getaway. Is that better? |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: kendall Date: 21 Jun 10 - 01:03 PM That's how officers are called to be somewhere in a ship. The Captain is never "piped" that way, a messenger is always sent to speak to him directly. |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 21 Jun 10 - 01:36 PM And bring the monkey with ya', too, LH... Ya' hear??? |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 22 Jun 10 - 11:05 AM Amos "running waters" that you wrote is a fine song my friend I love it Dan |
Subject: RE: Amos's new CD From: Genie Date: 22 Jun 10 - 04:57 PM Bobert, a vasectomy ain't no piece of cake (though it is a slice of something). Ain't it nice to know how ya made all them nurses 'preciate what they got waitin' fer 'em at home, though? ... An' if the butt bone's connected to the finger bones, is that how some people keep pulling songs out'n they arses? But Hawk is right. I mean I could say my arthritis is a pain in the ass, but it's mostly in my fingers. -- OldDude, I've never known Amos to hide under the radar, but it's really great to get that talent on a real live CD! These recordings are wonderful, Amos. They display your excellent voice and geetar skills very well, and I really appreciate the variety of songs you chose for the CD. Do send me a copy. (I'll PM you the address.) And I'll either send a check to the Mudcat Home For the Blues Impaired (or one of the other 'Cat charities) or make the payment via plastic if that's allowed. Good show, bro! |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 22 Jun 10 - 05:07 PM Genie: I am not sure what the Mudcat channels are for support contriubutions. I believe they take PayPal and Joe might be able to provide other details. I have a copy ready for you! Thank you all for the kind and heart-warming remarks. A |
Subject: RE: "Amos Mudcat's" new CD From: Genie Date: 22 Jun 10 - 05:56 PM Thanks, Amos. I hope you'll send the lyrics & chords to some of those songs to the Balboa Park Jam crowd too so we can jam with you on them too. I'll send a check to Dick or Max, since I don't do PayPal. Genie |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Jun 10 - 07:46 PM When I hear Amos play and sing I'm reminded of Cisco Houston. That's good company. But it's time Amos got off his lazy duff and made another recording. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 22 Jun 10 - 07:58 PM I agree, Charlie... Seems that ever since they set up pot stores on every corner in Amos's neighborhood that the boy, ahhhhh, how do you put this??? Okay, he'd rather just "ay around the shanty and put a good buzz on"... I mean, I can't blame him... Heck, if they had pot stores here in Virginia I might do the same but... ...alas... But seriously, Amos... Get back to doin' a little recordin'... Heck, I even plan of puttin' in some studio time this comin' winter so if I can do it, so can you... Ya hear??? B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 22 Jun 10 - 08:46 PM And I told ya your CD is great look at the response ya got bro... geeze nobody ever believes me . And they are right, now record more please :-) DAn |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: olddude Date: 22 Jun 10 - 09:25 PM I have another CD from Amos called "Songs for Dan" he has some great stuff like "Buffalo Skinners" I will post them when I get back from Wisconsin Thursday. have a listen in the meantime to Buffalo Skinners Amos Buffalo Skinners |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Genie Date: 22 Jun 10 - 09:38 PM Don't forget, you can also hear some "Amos Mudcat" songs on the Mudcat CD Samplers that one of our dedicated members (whos initials are A J) so tirelessly worked to put together. I know there are at least 2 of his original songs on those CDs. Genie |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 22 Jun 10 - 10:55 PM Flood Dick!!! ;>) A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 22 Jun 10 - 11:00 PM Flood Dick??? Must not have been in school that day... Amos, ol' buddy... One of us is gonna have to pee in this little plastic cup... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 22 Jun 10 - 11:57 PM Bobert: Back when I released the Mudcat CDs I put little messages all over the Cat telling people to Flood Dick Greenhaus with orders for the Mudcat CDs, see. The slogan of the campaign was "FLOOD DICK!" I thought it was clever, anyway... Now I am not so sure. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 23 Jun 10 - 07:47 AM Like I said, Amos... Here's the cup... We're gonna need a sample, por favor... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 23 Jun 10 - 10:14 AM No pee for you, pal. You got too much piss and vinegar in ya already. And I suspect from your response you never ordered the Mudcat CDs, ja?? Ve haff vays off knowink dese tings, ja? A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 23 Jun 10 - 06:17 PM Nah, I ordered it... I remember sending in a song fir it... I think it got put on there... I had allready kinda left cutsie folk music in the past but didn't want to send in anything that I was currently doin' at the time for fear of being put out of Mudville...lol... So I picked a smalzty folk song I wrote a long and recorded a long, long time ago thinkin' that that would be more appropriate... Should have sent some Mississippi style blues... Next time... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bill D Date: 23 Jun 10 - 06:23 PM Maybe it is time for a 'next time'. We have more members and there are some who never got on the first time. Just musing... |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Genie Date: 23 Jun 10 - 06:48 PM I think the technology's advanced enough by now that putting together more Mudcat CD samplers would be a good deal easier than when you did the first batch, Amos. (E.g., not too many people would be sending you tapes.) I"m not 'volunteering' you for the principal engineer & promoter though. : D |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: GUEST,kendall Date: 23 Jun 10 - 07:31 PM Amos, you will be bringing some CDs to the Getaway? |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 23 Jun 10 - 07:59 PM I'll be happy to, Skipper, but if it's for you yer asking, I'll drop it in the mail tomorrow. A |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: GUEST,Deda Date: 24 Jun 10 - 05:01 PM I'm hardly ever on the 'cat anymore but couldn't resist this thread. As his younger sister, I am Amos' first and original fan, and I hope that I have all his CDs although I don't think I have the one "for Dan" because I don't think I have "Buffalo Skinners." Amos & I had a grandfather who was a folksinger & and engineer, and I'm proud to say that my own son is also a folksinger -- seems to be at least partly genetic. One family myth has it that among Amos' very first words were "Jimmy Crack Corn." Anyway, within our family, the arrival of Amos means the party has started. It always has. He has a lot of other great qualities, too. Love you tons, bro -- Deda |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Bobert Date: 24 Jun 10 - 05:05 PM Well, Deda... Seein' as yer Amos's sis then maybe you can get him to stop buy one of the drive thru pot stores on the way to the airport and get his ol' hillbilly buddy a bag of good California growed weed??? Whaddayathink??? No??? Come on, sis... Don't be like that... B~ |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Genie Date: 25 Jun 10 - 01:48 AM Deda, "Jimmy crack corn" may well have been among Amos's first words, but I suspect the very first ones were something like "ba ba ba bop, doo-de-wah-dee-wah-dee wah, sha na na nah!" Oh, and really nice to "see" you again here at the 'cat! |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Deda Date: 02 Jul 10 - 10:22 PM Many thanks, Genie -- Our mother used to say that every baby's firs word was "eglise" -- French for church. If you say it a few times in a row it does sound like babytalk. Where is the old reprobate, anyway? Is the Getaway under way? (or is that under weigh?) Deda |
Subject: RE: Amos, Amos, Amos From: Amos Date: 03 Jul 10 - 12:04 AM I love you too, Deda! Nice to see you coming around these parts!! Needles to say this whole thread was sprung on me outta the blue and just completely obfuscated my perennial modesty... |
