I learned this song off the CD. In concert, Fred does an additional verse that includes a line like "I saw Elvis Presley and Woody Guthrie". Anybody know that verse?

The King and I
by Fred Koller

I saw Elvis Presley and Amelia Earhart,
At the airport late last night.
He was checking his guitar at the baggage claim,
She was waitin' for a standby flight.
And I know it was him and Jimmy Hoffa,
Over by the money machine.
If I'd had my camera, I could've taken their picture,
And sold it to People magazine.

CHO:
Oooh, whee, oh, my.
There we were, The King and I.
Just a couple of regular guys,
Havin' the time of our lives.

I saw Elvis Presley and John Belushi,
Hitchhikin' down the avenue.
Well I picked 'em up and when I asked 'em their names,
They both said, "Howard Hughes"
And I know it was him at the laundramat,
Trying to make change for a five,
'Cause he carried his jump suits to a white Cadillac,
That was parked at the curb outside. CHO:

I saw Elvis Presley at the Strike and Spare,
Bowling a three hundred game.
Well, he'd put on some weight and he'd lost some hair,
But he was still The King just the same.
So late that night, I followed him home,
To a trailer by the side of the road.
Elvis brought out some brews and we sat outside,
And waited for the UFO's. CHO:

I saw Elvis Presley and Yul Brynner,
Yul said, "El, I belong in your song."
El said, "Go on Yul, go shave your head."
"It's already way too long." CHO:

Refresh. Obviously the Mudcat is not awash with Fred Koller fans. Too bad, he is a treat.

I was inspired by a recent Rick Fielding post to keep this suckier alive.

Allmusic.com says THE KING AND I was written by John Gorka and Fred Koller--a one-off collaboration, apparently. As far as I can tell, John Gorka hasn't recorded it, but Billy C. Wirtz did. It's on his album "Sermon from Bethlehem," and it's on Fred Koller's album "Songs from the Night Before."

Maybe this information will be useful to somebody.
