Subject: Songs of the Diggers From: GUEST,Julia Date: 06 Sep 04 - 10:25 PM I don't know much about the Digger social movement in England but there are a few good songs from/about them and so I'm wondering if there are more... So far I have (it's likely these aren't actual titles) Ye Noble Diggers All We Come in Peace Let Union Be any more? Any place to find info on the Diggers? thanks, Julia |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Diggers From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 06 Sep 04 - 10:31 PM "Diggers" was also used as a term in Australia. I vaguely seem to remember that there was also another reference to another location where it was used, I think it may have been South Africa. Obviously they may not be directly related to the English usage from the original English social movement, or is there? Robin |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Diggers From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 06 Sep 04 - 10:47 PM "The Digger Song" under Themes at that site. Seems to be a long-winded, ill-spelled effort. |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Diggers From: rich-joy Date: 06 Sep 04 - 10:52 PM Leon Rosselson's "The World Turned Upside Down" ... Also see the documentary film on The Digger's stand (and Gerard Winstanley) in 1649 at St George's Hill, that's available on video - can't recall the Director at present ... Some years ago, a group tried (unsuccessfully ) to erect a placque to commemmorate The Diggers' stand, in this now very well-to-do area. Cheers! R-J |

Subject: RE: Songs of the Diggers From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 06 Sep 04 - 11:06 PM Plenty already posted here (including a more accurate set of (?) Winstanley's Stand up now, Diggers all, in the DT, though given the wrong title; the Chumbawumba arrangement linked to (nearly) above seems a bit garbled). No connection of any kind to Australian usage, of course. |
