I am new to PA, living in West Chester and am looking to start/join a sea chantey/nautical music group. Rollicking, boisterous vocals and mellow instrumentals.

Welcome aboard Tom. We'll miss you Great Lakes songs and the wonderful trips down stream on the AuSable River Queen. Good luck with your new job.

Cap't Bob

And, there is yet another new member in West Chester...Chris Nightbird...he's becoming a regular in the chat room. Welcome both of you!

Tom,

There is a bunch of music in the area. I'm into old-time string band music (fiddle/banjo/guitar), so I can't point you directly to a sea chanty group, but I can recommend that you look into the Philadelphia Folk Song Society. There is a folk group in West Chester (West Chester Folk).

Welcome to Philadelphia!

Hi Tom. Welcome to MudCat. Good to see another local folk musician here! I'm probably right down the street...

Greetings

But I sincerely doubt you can keep the CAPT.... moniker .... if you are reaching out to join existing groups.

If you want to remain "The Capt"...it is necessary that you begin and recuit your own crew.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Hi Tom,

Philly has a tall ship, the Gazela, with a volunteer crew. They actually get together and sing shanties sometimes. So you could join the crew and recruit your singers from there!
