Apparently a guy called David Bowler in Hampshire was having problems with his car losing power and took it in to his local dealer,
They found a loose nut in the engine (actually, about 2000 loose nuts in the engine)
Somehow a squirrel had got in and was storing peanuts taken from a bird-feeder in his air filter.
The garage took a photo as proof.
Reported in todays Daily Mail.

Yes - 'twas me!
Daily Mail got one of the facts wrong, however.
Can you tell which?

Is there more than one Daily Mail? I tried a search and only find the usual "nuts" in the headlines (Britney Spears says her marriage "isn't on the rocks," etc.)

Post a link if you can.

Sounds a bit squirrly to me. And I grew up in Squirrel Hill.

When I was in Bahrain my car broke down and I was waiting for parts to be shipped from overseas. When I finally got around to opening the hood again I found that a cat had had kittens on top of the engine.

Peanuts in a bird feeder? Not impossible, I suppose, but sounds strange to me.

I believe that some people feed birds peanuts. Woodpeckers like them, I believe. However, I doubt whether any air filter would be so open that a squirrel could simply stuff peanuts into it. Doesn't an air filter usually sit in a container with a lid and a wing nut or similar?

The RSPB web site has plenty of bird feeders with peanuts. So does our local Pet shop, come to that. I stopped using them because it is impossible to find anywhere to hang them that the squirrels can't get to.
I have to admit I was a little dubious about the squirrel getting access to the air filter, and unfortunately the paper with the story in has now gone for re-cycling so I can't remember if it gave any technical details. Maybe Dave would fill us in.
