Subject: RE: BS: Winter Olympic favs From: Donuel Date: 07 Jan 06 - 09:57 AM It was only a pic I did of the Flash speed skating against Superman. .................................................................... The underwhelming popularity of the winter olympics I (don hakman) feel is the result of what NBC did to them with their up close and personal pieces on the obnoxious and competitive moms of figure skaters and the endless glorifications of coaches all the way down to the family dog. Well maybe a dog on ice is better than the endless drivel NBC spews during the Oleopics. Also many of the sports are high priced elite competitions decided by 44 1/1000ths of a second. Where is the fun in that? I don't know anyone else who sees the logic in drive by ski shooting and some of the other esoteric "sports" I can't even remember. Yean, like that roller derby on ice thing... Yep give me a true competitor like Eddy the Eagle or the Home Depot clerk who won in speed skating and keep the NBC personal spots for the cut throat parents of teen age olympic atheletes. Maybe the best thing they did for the winter olympics was having corrupt judges that made Abramoff seem like a Saint. Still watching a Scandanavian cross country skier gasping for breath is a comforting image while sitting before a fire drinking hot chocolate. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Olympic favs From: Donuel Date: 07 Jan 06 - 10:29 AM I suggest the best way to bring the Winter Olmpics back in touch with the common man is to have events like SNOW SHOVELING and wind shield ice scrapping without gloves. Maybe NASCAR should look into Winter black ice driving events. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Olympic favs From: Rapparee Date: 07 Jan 06 - 10:48 AM Skeet jumping: a combination of skeet shooting and ski jumping, the jumper fires at a pair of clay targets released at the height of his/her jump. Points are given for hitting the targers, distance of jump, height of jump, and, because of the recoil of the shotgun, fancy diving technique. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Olympic favs From: Tootler Date: 07 Jan 06 - 03:54 PM I miss Eddie the Eagle, the last true Olympian. Sadly the powers that be felt he had made them look fools, so they changed the rules. We can't have true Olympians mucking up the Olympic games. There is too much at stake for that. |

Subject: RE: BS: Winter Olympic favs From: Donuel Date: 08 Jan 06 - 01:11 PM Rapaire, what about the spectators? It sounds like they will be more at risk than at the sidelines of a car race. |
