Subject: Musician needed urgently Saturday 4 Mar.

Hi ... I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who might be able to help me out at very short notice. It's in Ashwell, UK on the boundary of Herts/Beds/Cambs.

Basically, I have a dance band for a barn dance / ceilidh (starting 7:30 Saturday) with a caller and a bass/rhythm section but no melody. Things have just fallen through repeatedly and life's otherwise pretty thoroughly complicated.

I'd do it myself but it's for my wife's 50th birthday and I don't think I'd be very popular.

Band's setting up at 7:00 (plugged/PA available) and there's £60 in it (what I'm paying all the other musicians).

Fiddler, flute, hurdy gurdy, English pipes, whatever. If you know me or if you just feel charitably inclined, please PM me or leave a message here. Don't phone though ... it's all supposed to be a secret.

HELP!
:-(
Ian

He play'd "The Welcome Ower the Main"
And "Ye's Be Fou and I'se be Fain"
And "Auld Stuart's Back Again"
Wi' muckle mirth and glee
He'd play'd "The Kirk", he play'd "The Queer"
"The Mullen Dhu" and "Chevalier"
And "Lang Awa' But Welcome Here"
Sae sweet, sae bonnily

... anybody?

Ian- Sorry you've not gotten any responses yet. Could you possible call 'round any of the folk clubs in your area for finding someone?

Best wishes,

maeve in Maine

Alan Collins lives near Ashwell. I don't know his phone number though. I think the village is Steeple Morden and he is in the phone book. He plays concertina and is a member of Hoddesden Crownsmen.

Alan Collins lives in Cornwall now!

I've already sent Ian a pm with a suggestion for a fiddle player. I might have done it myself but we're going to be in Devon this weekend.

Derek Brown from Harlow was on the phone to me and he told me he's signed up to be there. He's got a lot of good tunes. You'll be all right.

Hi

Thanks for all your help. Derek came along and one or two others as well. The band ended up being great and we all had an excellent time.

Happy 50th birthday Liz!

:-)
