Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Caterpilla Boots From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Jun 06 - 08:08 AM I found lots of references to "caterpilla boots" (sic) at places like eBay, where messages are posted by people who don't necessarily know how to spell. The official spelling of the brand of footwear is Caterpillar or simply CAT. (The footwear manufacturer, Wolverine World Wide, is licensed to use the brand name of Caterpillar, Inc., the manufacturer of heavy equipment.) That doesn't settle the question of what the song is called, though, but I thought it might help. |
Subject: Lyr Add: FAIRYTALE (from Roger Whittaker) From: Peace Date: 22 Jun 06 - 01:26 PM Got lucky with a Google of Caterpilla Boots, lyrics, roses, runways, dragonflies FAIRYTALE (attributed to Roger Whittaker) The first of the sunrays are cast on my home of pine needles As I wake to the sounds of the wood from my dandelion bed And I gaze through my small cobweb curtains, down through the arches That are made from the wings of the bees and the moths that are dead Fairytale children are dancing like jewels in the morning Caterpillar skin boots and green velvet suits catch the sun The butterfly aeroplanes land on a runway of roses And the policemen cockroaches are standing by watching the fun I hear three bluebells ringing in a steeple of heather and roses I can hear them so clear as I glide by on dragonfly wings And the gamekeeper fairy who lives in a mushroom nearby Plays a lute made of pinewood and oak and plucks cottonwool strings The last of the sunrays are leaving the floor of the wildwood As the phantom black beetle arrives on the wings of the bat The grasshopper coachmen are harnessing mice to my carriage And the four coachlight fireflies are put into place by the rat Farewell to the appleseed pavements and moss covered roadways The tall mushroom castles, fairytale children and all I may never again chance to fly upon dragonfly wings Or wake where the morning sun shines on a pine needle wall from songlyrics.com/song-lyrics/Roger_Whittaker/Miscellaneous/Fairytale/244029.html |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Caterpilla Boots From: Fidjit Date: 22 Jun 06 - 01:56 PM Hey Peace. Thanks for the pm and for the words. Great stuff. I knew some mudcatter would come up trumps. So Roger Whittaker eh? Who'd a thought. Chas |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Caterpilla Boots From: Jim Dixon Date: 22 Jun 06 - 03:11 PM Interesting. Google finds it, even though you use the spelling "caterpilla" and the web site says "caterpillar." I didn't know Google would do a "sounds like" search. It does ask you "Did you mean: caterpillar" etc. I'm mystified why so many people spell it "caterpilla." Are there people who actually pronounce it that way? And I notice the song has the phrase "caterpillar skin boots" so maybe he's not referring to the Caterpillar brand-name after all. Is this clever word play, or a coincidence? (I had never heard of Caterpillar boots before doing this search.) By the way, Allmusic.com says Roger Whittaker recorded FAIRYTALE but "Kay Hershy" wrote it. I suspect that's a mistake and it should be Hershy Kay, who is often credited as a conductor, arranger, adaptor, or orchestrator of film music and Broadway musicals. So is this a song from one of those musicals? If so, I can't identify which one. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Caterpilla Boots From: Peace Date: 22 Jun 06 - 04:08 PM It is so attributed (written by Hershy Kay) on RW's album (CD) "Songs for You: The Collection" which had its release in 2002 (it's a compilation). |

My friend who asked me to do the earch could still remember the tune, but not the words. He's happpy now. I'll telll him it's Hershy Kay's. Thanks again. Peace and all. Chas |
