Someone's just given me a litre bottle of Highland Park whisky that's supposed to taste like Christmas cake.

Is it just me, or does that sound truly revolting?

The description is, at any rate. It doesn't sound like what people have been saying about it.

They do have different numbers of years - what is the full title on the box or the bottle?

Never had Highland Park that tastes like Christmas Cake, Al. But I found it very nice to accompany Christmas Cake! Yum!

Lidl do a nice Irish whiskey here too called Dundealgan or Dun Dealgan… but I fear that Lidl is sinking downmarket - some of the nice things you used to be able to buy there have been "delisted" and their centre aisle is not so great now.

Make mine a Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection bourbon.

Just to comment.. since I've had a few extra$$$, I treated myself to a 15 year old Highland Park. I nurse it slowly and lovingly!
Of course, I also love beer, so at my age, I don't imbibe large amounts of anything.

I know this thread is about Scotch, but got a pleasant surprise while shopping in Ardara, co. Donegal on our summer holiday. Free sample of Silkie whiskey (Irish spelling!) - it's a blend, but VERY nice indeed! Thought about bringing a bottle home, but it was over £40, so not quite THAT nice! They do a number of variants on it too: distilled in Donegal.

Well, being in the U.S., I have never heard of it... "Legendary" they say? Hmm...
I am quite fond of Tullamore Dew, though I can't afford to keep everything on hand. (and it's hard to find the crock any more.)

Best recent purchase was Auchentoshan, American Oak cask, at Tesco's a few weeks ago - £23 for a 75cl bottle - but I nearly made a costly mistake, as they had more than one Auchentoshan, and the other one was over £10 more. Fortunately, being a suspicious b#gger, I always check my bill before leaving the store, and spotted the higher price - and was able to exchange for the bargain bottle - which is very nice!
Currently enjoying a wee dram o Glen Moray - Speyside single malt from Elgin.

That bottle is going to have to sit on the shelf and get a few years older before I use it to celebrate a presidential election.
