Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales From: Liz the Squeak Date: 09 Feb 10 - 11:33 AM I thought it meant horse too.. hence chavalier or cavalier.... It's the sight of that honed torso, rippling thigh muscles, mane wafting in the breeze, head held high and nostrils flaring with the sheer joy of running, the exhiliration of being alive.... It just needs that music (Galloping Home, recorded by the Simon Park Orchestra IFRC) to make it complete. The horse is just a horse. Never have liked the beasts. LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales From: mandotim Date: 09 Feb 10 - 12:12 PM Cheval is French for horse. The player is called Sebastian Chabal. Pity to spoil a good metaphor with facts, though. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales From: paula t Date: 09 Feb 10 - 02:31 PM Hi MikeL2, I agree about Wilkinson. I can't yet see anyone pushing too hard for his place. A bit of a problem for a few years time, but he's still there at the moment so we can be thankful for that at least. You never know who might suddenly step forward. We still have a bit if a problem with slow ball from the breakdown, I think. The forwards are quickly getting the ball to the back foot in the rucks, but, too often on Saturday, the scrum half stood there pointing at so-called infringements or he waited while the opposition marked their guys ....meaning that our midfield often took the ball standing still. No momentum.Ho hum....Never happy eh? |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales From: gnu Date: 09 Feb 10 - 02:48 PM Villan "Joe has been asked to change the title to... Rugby Union 2010 in response to gnu's idea. Now, THAT is hilarious! |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 09 Feb 10 - 06:59 PM I suppose I'm still allowed to post here seeing we're playing Wales. I'll be back behind the sofa on Saturday - Dan Parks starting at No 10! I suppose he'll not play too badly if we're being thrashed, but if it's close he'll find a way to lose it. He's our answer to Arwel Thomas who couldn't raise his game to international level, but in recent seasons has been a regular "Seren y gem" for Neath. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: A Wandering Minstrel Date: 10 Feb 10 - 08:02 AM Parks couldn't do much worse than Godman did. Maybe Wyn-Jones will trip him and we'll get 3 tries from Lamont and Cussiter :) Don't know why we can't commit to having Patterson at 10 and a choice of full-back. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 10 Feb 10 - 08:23 AM Godman doesn't make a habit of having kicks charged down on his goal line in close games. Sean Lineen was saying that people should get off Parks' back because his confidence is fragile, but that's the problem. Watch Stephen Jones, Jonny Wilkinson or any top international stand-off, and yes, they'll make mistakes, but they'll pick themselves up and produce something to compensate. Once Parks makes his first mistake he's gone for the rest of the game. Having said that, he has had 2 decent games in a Scotland jersey (out of 47). As for Patterson, he hasn't been playing stand-off most of the time, so even if we comitted to him (which we should have done 99 caps ago) it's going to be several games before he's got a chance of being the second coming of Rutherford. Robinson should probably be fast-tracking Glasgow's Ruairidh Jackson for next season anyway. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: MikeL2 Date: 10 Feb 10 - 09:16 AM hi Paula You are right about the slow ball. It looked to me as if it was a deliberate ploy. Over the years England has had a policy of "crash-ball centres". This entails that the ball is not whipped out quickly to the wings through the centres. This tactic suposes that they have very hard strong running centres and a speedy back row. At the moment we seem to have a slow but big back row with centres that like to run and make breaks.....we are in the middle of a change but we just haven't got the players in the right positions at the rightmoments. A little bit like Eric Morcambe in his reply to Andre Previn who told him he was playing all the wrong notes. Morcambe's reply was " I am playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order". Regards Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: paula t Date: 10 Feb 10 - 02:05 PM Hi Mike, I see that Flutey is back as inside centre for the next match. It will be interesting to see how that changes the dynamics. We will have two fast centres , and Flutey is not afraid to get physical, even though he's not the biggest guy in the game.I was concerned about defence during the last match, as I've yet to be convinced that Tait is one to be "feared". (I hope he proves me wrong here).Flutey is usually good at spotting the danger areas and is not afraid to boss when unhappy with things.A bit of experience goes a long way! Looking forward to a good game! Paula |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: Dave MacKenzie Date: 10 Feb 10 - 03:13 PM I see the offending thread title is still with us. Goatfell, if you read the previous entries you'd see that I was making the same point as you were, and Real Madrid is only there because of the fish. |

Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: Rasener Date: 10 Feb 10 - 03:44 PM England to win all their matches. Villa is a side track as the thread was rather slow, and as I started the thread :-) Do I detect a bit of unhappiness as Wales and Scotland lost :-) |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: gnu Date: 10 Feb 10 - 03:56 PM Villan... because of the nonplacement of punctuation.... again, I would have to explain.... why Joe would detedt such a title as written. Sorry for my obtuse posts. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Rugby England V Wales/Rugby Union 2010 From: Rasener Date: 10 Feb 10 - 05:06 PM Dave I asked Joe to change the title to Rugby Union 2010 Joe didn't do that, but in the USA they do not understand the importance. So if it is Ok with everybody, I will start a new thread. Yes I will, oh no you won't, oh yes I will Les |
