Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 20 May 01 - 12:24 PM Are there any more charges to Max for processing three small consecutive monthly payments than for the same total amount paid as a one off payment? I just dont want to pledge $5 a month and then find out the visa processing charge is $3 per payment> Does that make any sense? |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: katlaughing Date: 20 May 01 - 12:35 PM It does, Roger and I think that is something only Max will be able to answer. It's a good point. Let's make sure one of us sned him a PM to ask, when he comes in to the office tomorrow. Really good point. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 20 May 01 - 12:51 PM I just had a completely confusing discussion with Willie Cheatham of our auditing firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe and I suspect he's guessing at the figures and may be up to something else since he was wearing a Mudcat T-Shirt and drinking a can of Pepsi. It was very hard to understand him between burps, but I think I got the figures!!!! WE ARE REALLY ALMOST THERE FOLKS!!!!!
$3800.00 !!!Okay.....Personal side note here.......Many of you have listed the amounts of your pledge. Some have not...and that's OKAY!!! Definitely NOT A PROBLEM! The only thing is that for tally up purposes, I've had to assign my "Best Guess" to some of the pledges. I based those guesses on my knowledge of you and I could be radically wrong in either direction, but it's the best I can do and I'm willing to bet that I'm pretty close! We'll go with that and hope that I am!!! Also in that figure are the pledges of a few 'Catters who have written me and said they were pledging but didn't want their names known. So we'll figure that I am pretty close and go from there......Okay?
ONLY $1000.00 TO GO!! PLEDGE NOW!!Spaw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: GUEST,in room 325 of the Motel 6 Date: 20 May 01 - 01:00 PM If Mudcat were really a forum for folk and blues music, I'd be happy to make a donation. However, because Max allows it to be an open forum for for stupidities and for threads that always seem to bring out racists and antisemites, I'll direct my donation money elsewhere. If Mudcat goes under, it'll mean another hour so per week to play my banjo or guitar. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Mrs.Duck Date: 20 May 01 - 01:23 PM We have raised some cash this weekend at the gathering. I haven't counted it all yet but will send it over to Max with Bill. Every little helps! Janewhoenjoysmusicandstupiditiesbutnotnasties |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: DougR Date: 20 May 01 - 02:48 PM Spaw, I hope you're right! The whold ball of wax could be accomplished by the end of the day! Keep the pledges, and dollars rolling in, folks! And Thanks to everybody who is participating. DougR |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: GUEST Date: 20 May 01 - 04:09 PM Spaw, You seem like a nice guy, so I don't wan't to piss you. But, if this follows the typical pattern here of huge enthusiasm and promise, followed by very little, when it comes down to 'real' dollars. Don't get me wrong, what you're doing is great. Just think that in your enthusiasm, you may badly overestimate the number of dollars that will be on the table when you count it for real. Sorry for being so negative - experience and all that... |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: katlaughing Date: 20 May 01 - 04:36 PM Whadday say, Mudcatters!? Will the First Annual ALL-VOLUNTEER Pledge Drive end tonight, with the FULL Year's Budget Pledged? You bet it will!!
|
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 20 May 01 - 05:05 PM Unnamed Guest......You are probably right. So what? If half of the folks actually do follow through and I'm anyways close in the estimate, then we're still a lot better off. I think most of the folks here will do what they say......History around here tells me that the percentage of 'Catters who follow through is pretty high and the ones who have said they's pledge are pretty good people so I think they'll come through. But again, even if they don't, what the hell huh? Are we a lot closer? You bet...........Now what about you? Got a buck or two? Spaw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: MMario Date: 20 May 01 - 05:12 PM No one thought we would find many of the 3834 tunes "missing" from the October '99 DT either...but in less then a year over 1500 have been posted - and I've got at least a dozen more sitting in my mailbox I haven't had a chance to tally yet; with about 200 or so that people are working on. Dozens of people have been involved with that "drive" |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: MikeJ Date: 20 May 01 - 05:19 PM I had the pleasure of meeting John Hardly & BigMick this afternoon. One of the values of Mudcat, sometimes you get to meet some real nice folks in person. I just sent my contribution via CC so I wouldn't forget. Back to my usual "lurk" mode. Mike |

That must've been a blast! nutty...goodonya, Spaw is hard at work figuring that out! Thanks a Bunch, everyone!!! Wish we had a camera to see Max's face in the morning when he reads these threads! Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 20 May 01 - 08:42 PM Well ALL-RIGHTY THEN!!!!!!! The weekend is ending and we're almost there folks! Just a few more bucks huh? I mean, we're running out of fantastic programs here but we'll keep going til we get there!!!! AND NOW......One of the few surviving copies left and we have it. Yet another film by Ken Burns....Here's Part One of his very first, a 97 parter called, "CRICKET; I Still Can't Figure It Out"-A Film By Ken Burns. Spaw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Big Mick Date: 20 May 01 - 09:58 PM Yep, Mike J and John Hardly are two fine gents. It is always so damn nice to meet folks 3D. And Kat, m'love, you were the subject of fond conversation. John is a very talented Potter and all round good guy. And a damn fine looking chap too. He took a picture and it should be posted. Don't want all you gals getting all goo goo. And just remember.............I AM THE KEEPER OF THE SACRED FERTILITY RITES!!! I must say that MikeJ impresses me as what is right about The Mudcat. A true gent. He only lives about an hour or so from me, and in the same town as IvanB. I suspect we will become good friends. I hope so, at any rate. My intuition tells me this is a nice man, and a fine musician. Folks, won't you step up and support this place that has introduced me to some of the finest people I have ever met. Support our village, and avail yourself when you have the chance to meet other 'Catters 3D. I have met people and exchanged opinions with wonderful folks. It is worth your support. Now we return to the next installment of "Spaw and the art of Zen Flatulence - The further you are from it, the closer it seems". Mick |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: katlaughing Date: 20 May 01 - 11:13 PM So that's why my ears were burning! I've not seen the pots, but I've seen the gorgeous dogs and watched some fantastic music videos of John, so...FERTILITY RIGHTS = THE MORE THE MERRIER, RIGHT?! Just so long as there is only ONE KEEPER!? **BG** It is indeed a wonderful group and a real treat to meet fine folks in person. This whole pledge drive has been another Wonder of the Mudcat. Thanks for being here, kat

Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: MMario Date: 21 May 01 - 08:22 AM refreshing number of topics have been shown during this drive. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: bill\sables Date: 21 May 01 - 08:40 AM I have at least $60 from things this weekend as well Mrs Ducks collection of £££££££. I will get it all converted into US dollars and bring the cash over to max on 12th June. If ant other UK catters are having trouble sending to the US and would like to donate anything, go to a travel agent whete there is no commission and convert the £ to $ and send it to me and I will take it to Max Bill |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 21 May 01 - 09:54 AM I'd like to make a regular (monthly or quarterly) donation but ain't sure how to do it from the UK. What's easiest? Is there an on-line credit card version? You know like them other sites use. The ones with pictures of ladies, eggs and live eels... uh-ho. Not that I would know about them of course. Spaw told me! Also, I was thinking about getting rid of the few vinyl albums I have left. Some crap, some good. 30 or 40 in all. Some damaged, some pristine. Part folk, part commercial. Cleo Laine to Deep Purple. Perhaps a dozen or so quite rare UK folk ones. I was going to take them to a charity shop but can I donate them to the auction and let all monies rasied go to Mudcat? I'll see if the (US) company my wife works for will unknowingly donate the postage. They're big and rich enough....;-) Answers here or PM Cheers Dave the Gnome |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: MMario Date: 21 May 01 - 09:58 AM yes, you can donate to the auction - If you have some reasonably rare ones, I would suggest posting those seperately - and then maybe the rest as a "grab bag" |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: SINSULL Date: 21 May 01 - 10:03 AM I collect LPs and would love to see them in the auction. |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 21 May 01 - 10:27 AM Thanks Bill for working out the UK stuff. And thanks to everyone else too!!!!!! DAVE THE GNOME Secure Server for MC and VISA is accessed through the "CATFISH JUMPING OUT OF THE BANJO" logo at the top of the page, just as though you were going to buy something from Amazon and were wanting Mudcat to get a percentage. The logo says "Help Support The Mudcat" and is at the top of every page. Click on it and then scroll down to the message from Max. In the message is blue clicky for the secure server! AGAIN FOLKS..............THANKS!!!!!!! We still need to add in another pledge or two or three or as many as we can get, but we have done VERY well in reaching our goal. Thanks too for all the "icing" discussions that have gone on here too about auction items and buying through the 'Cat at sponsor sites. Remember.......No one has to do this. Mudcat is free and the membership here will remain so as it should be. There are hundreds of non-financial ways to support Mudcat and the very fact that you come here to this wonderful community is a show of support in and of itself. Pledging will not give you any special priviliges or anything else.............except for maybe a warm fuzzy. If you can see your way clear to pledge a few bucks a month, the Mudcat is thankful for that.....if not, we're still thankful you are here! Spaw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Jande Date: 21 May 01 - 11:40 AM Well, it seems the most I can pledge right now is $5.00US a month. I wish it could be more. But I'm happy that I can contribute something. It seems that our online accounts won't allow us to auto-pay, so I'll just have to remember to do it every month. You are a lovely bunch of phoaks!! ~ Jande |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Roger in Sheffield Date: 21 May 01 - 12:18 PM Thanks Bill butI might well not get around to doing that in time ( yes I am that slow), so I am going to use Maxs secure server and hope visa don't take to large a slice. Luckily we get more dollars to pounds at present. currency conversion Roger |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: hesperis Date: 21 May 01 - 04:20 PM Well, if I could, I would, if only to pay for seeing Spaw's entertaining show on this thread! So, since I have started to record some VOCAL stuff finally, I will pledge one of those seedies (at least) to the auction when it is done. (And when I get a new printer so that you guys know it's not a blank seedy.) Jande, LH, Carol - remind me when it's done, please! And as for the rest of you - thanks for being and supporting mudcat! Morty - "seedy"!!! LOL! I love it! |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: DougR Date: 21 May 01 - 04:58 PM The fund drive has really caught on, and it just goes to show what a great community this is! When you think about it, almost all of us could forgo a couple of Guinnesses a month (that would be about $7.00 here in Phoenix)for a good cause like this. Or a couple of Buds for a total of $5 a month. Smaller donations added to others, become big ones. Every donation of any size will help us reach the goal! DougR |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: Eluned Date: 21 May 01 - 05:44 PM As ever, a highly creative and entertaining gang! *chuckle!* I have an envelope addressed and ready to go, 'cause I've been wanting that calendar since I read about it, but since for my sanity Mudcat MUST survive (just knowing I can come by for a visit is a cheering thought I carry with me through some LONG hours), I will wait until after this weekend, since I'm doing sales at an event. I will add to that $10 whatever money I make on a specific item.... I think the most appropriate one would be the faun's-horns that I make....when one puts them on, they look like they grew there, a wonderful but gentle joke on pholks, so people buy them with a smile. :) Tracy/Eluned |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 21 May 01 - 08:56 PM Well this has been great hasn't it? Right now I think we are probably $600.oo or so short of the mark, butit can still happen!!! Many have already sent in their first installment or in some cases the entire amount and Max is getting it in at Mudcat Central! I talked to Max today and he read through some of the figures that had come in so I know we're all as good as our word!! Some are still in the process of setting it up at the bank and some are doing the Secure Server and some checks have already come in too!!! We may be short, but I'm impressed. We also have some CD/Special Event/Auction and other things that will be coming in so my hope is that in lumps and in drips and drabs, by this time next year we'll see that we MADE the $4800.00 for a $400/Month average. Pat yourselves on the back gang!!!! AND THAT MEANS EVERYBODY!!!! Yeah, I know that not everyone can pledge and some are helping in a myriad of other ways.........FAR OUT!!! The membership here is FREE and the biggest contribution you can make is in keeping the spirit of Mudcat alive, well, and strong, by the simple act of giving of yourself in participating on the threads, finding lyrics, giving opinions, adding tunes or verses..............By being a friend. Go out to a school and introduce the kids to the heritage that is theirs...........Visit a hospice or retirement community and keep the real meaning of folk music alive in those sometimes forgotten............Sing a song with your family............Sing songs at a campsite..............Give an instrument to a kid, or a CD................Play an old folk song at your church along with the newer music...............So much to do. All of it supports the 'Cat. I'll be gone a good bit tomorrow so I'll not twist arms from here on out (much) and I hope by Radio time tomorrow night, we will have made our financial goal............In my mind, we have already surpassed the real goal of the Mudcat Cafe!!! Thanks to Leej for starting the thread, to kat, Doug, Mick, and others for their endless cheerleading and......... ........Many thanks for everything my friends.......You've all done a tremendous job!!!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: SINSULL Date: 21 May 01 - 09:28 PM Spaw. You are making me nervous...getting a little too into this for your own good. Next, you'll be planning remakes of Cinderfella and some other Jerry Lewis abominations. |

Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: DougR Date: 22 May 01 - 01:40 AM You and kat make great cheerleaders, Spaw. I was glad to be along for the ride. I am confident that the collection rate on pledges will be very high. It would be kind of nice, though, if we could exceed goal by say, 20% to compensate for hard times. So if you haven't made your pledge yet, or sent your check, it's not too late! DougR |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: mousethief Date: 22 May 01 - 11:39 AM All this from a guy who blows up a possum's ass. I'm gobsmacked, as the British say. Now, can someone tell me what a theist or a George Carlin is???? Cheers and well done leej, spaw and all the other cheeleaders. (Can't imagine some of them in short skirts but never mind. Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: SDShad Date: 23 May 01 - 12:22 PM Sure, Allan, sure. Welcome me back and then steal my line before I get a chance to post it. Makes a feller feel right welcome, that does. Ahhh, it's good to be back. I've not been completely away, I've popped in and lurked for a few minutes occasionally, and clicked on thread titles that had "Spaw's gonna make a double-entendre of that one" written all over them, just to see if he did (and I was rarely disappointed, mister), but I've had a huuuuge project all winter and spring in my new job that I absolutly love, I'm trying, as mentioned, to buy a house, and the Gospel Buckaroos have been gigging more regularly of late, so I just haven't had the time much. But sometimes you just gotta make the time. For friends. (Hi Kat! Hi Suze! Hi Matt! Hi everybody!) Shad "So Mike, how many 'stone' is that" O'Spawn |
Subject: RE: MUDCAT PLEDGE DRIVE-Will Mudcat Survive2 From: catspaw49 Date: 23 May 01 - 03:58 PM Okay folks.....I'm out of the really good documentaries, but I hope some of you are still considering making a pledge to the 'Cat. We shall see what has come in so far when Max gets back to us here, but I think we've done a good job of getting some money in on a regular basis and I feel confident that this time next year, we will see that the $$$ have come up to average our goal of $4800 this year/$400 per month.
But we can still stand to pick up another buck or two!!!!So if you haven't, do it now!!! Remember, it's not a requirement.....your participation on the threads is enough. If you have other ways too that you wish to contribute here, by all means.........DO IT!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONTINUED EFFORTS AND FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THIS STAB AT FUNDRAISING!!!!!!!! Spaw |
