Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: alanww Date: 31 Jan 02 - 12:35 PM Oh, no - I'm staying at the Bull too! Does that mean that I've got to bring that fetching little number with which I won the best makeup prize at Sidmouth Anchor Middle Bar Wimmin's Night? (Of course, Chris Gorniak won main prize, for looking the scariest!) Yippee!! Time passes over more pleasant and gay ... |

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Liz the Squeak Date: 31 Jan 02 - 06:21 PM Hey Lady P - ring me - you've been engaged all night!!! Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Snuffy Date: 31 Jan 02 - 07:40 PM Morty, According to the DT, that's all there is of HUNDREDS OR LESS. Do you plan to sing it or live it at Stony? WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Llanfair Date: 31 Jan 02 - 07:45 PM FROCKS!!! blimey. no-one said it was going to be a posh weekend!! alanww are your toenails still painted blue? Cheers, Bron. And I think £15 is very reasonable, even for a day girl, Dai. Diolch yn fawr. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 31 Jan 02 - 08:14 PM See you, I hope.
One thing, after my experience at Buntingford a couple of months back (a pretty little posh people's town, where some of the local lads gave my car a serious kicking when I left it parked outside the scout hut in the course of a singing weekend), is the parking likely to be reasonably safe? (For the sake of people whose cars are still relatively undimpled.) |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 01 Feb 02 - 03:42 AM Rest assured the parking is off-road - this is a big 'ouse we're talking about here ;-) |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Dave Bryant Date: 01 Feb 02 - 05:02 AM McGrath, to quote from one of your other postings - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- They wave cheerfully totally misreading your singular digital salute. I love doing that. Far more satisfying than giving back a V-sign or a finger. Only trouble is I, then I think that I've probably really annoyed that jumped up little shit, and he'll go on an kill some unfortunate road-user a few miles down the highway. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . . . . or give your vehicle a good kicking later. Peace and Love, Kevin, Don't upset the locals even if you are out of Essex. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: GUEST,Lady P. at work Date: 01 Feb 02 - 06:52 AM No Micca - Just a big girl's blouse! ;) Alan - I've seen the pictures of that frock and I must say it went very well with the nail polish ( all of you who saw the nail polish will know what I mean! ). Liz - I don't know if this is of any use, but I shall attempt to phone you tonight ( Friday 1st Feb ) as I am still e-mail-less ( due to the vaguries of NTL ). You've probably been dialling the wrong number as Buffy was on last night, so I didn't talk to any one!!!! I think I can probably be ready and over at your place for 3 ( this is pm we're talking about? ) Well Done Dai, for being so organised. I have found a surprise prize for the raffle! And I may commit cooking! TTFN M'Lady P. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: MudGuard Date: 01 Feb 02 - 08:55 AM Liz, slight correction: I will arrive in London on Thursday around 3pm, not on Friday. If I can't stay the night Thursday to Friday at your place, please tell me! Less than a week till departure... MudGuard |

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Manitas_at_home Date: 01 Feb 02 - 01:44 PM Mudguard, We thought the orginal plan was for you to come on Thursday. You certainly can sleep overnight at our place but there may not be anyone at home until about 6pm so you may have to find a museum or something to keep your self amused.. unless Micca has the afternoon off and can keep you company? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: John MacKenzie Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:24 PM The last time I bought a round of drinks in the pub, on our staff night out, it came to a lot more than £15.00. No there aren't lots of people work at my place. So I think that the price is cheap!!Looking forward to it already. "And we'll all go together"..Failte...Giok |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Gareth Date: 01 Feb 02 - 04:26 PM Yes £15.00 I can stand, but what price are hamsters and sheep? Gareth |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Eric the Viking Date: 01 Feb 02 - 05:26 PM If it's £15 per head, how much is it for the rest of me? Anyway-The celiedh band needs participants, so all you who sing 98 verse songs, can give up for a while (put nicely-shut yer gobs and dance you buggers) so the dancing (for which you are invited to be participants of) can take place, and so that there are people to dance etc. Do we need to bring amps etc? See you next saturday, just as the sun is rising! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Mrs.Duck Date: 01 Feb 02 - 05:52 PM Giok you obviously drink in the wrong places. We can have a weekend ticket for Cleckheaton folk festival including camping and entertainment for £20 so I'm sorry but I do not accept that £15 is reasonable and most definitely not pathetically cheap!!! Also it has taken until a week before the actual date of the event to come up with a final price!! I'll leave it to those who obviously have more money than sense to enjoy their weekend. We will enjoy ours but not there. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Ferret Date: 01 Feb 02 - 11:08 PM where on the London Rd is York House? I look at Streetmap.com but that was no help. so HELP? all the best ferret if you like the price go, if not dont. it's up to you. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 01 Feb 02 - 11:31 PM gareth-hamsters are 2.50 Each and sheep are around 20pounds (Market price for Whole live lamb) Although I expect the price of hamsters to rise dramaticaly in the next few weeks-I spotted this in the newspaper today HAMSTER FIGHTS BACK! Police were today hunting kidnappers who stole a primary school's pet hamster-and demanded a million pounds for its safe return. The gang left a ransom note demandind the cash for the return of Harri the hamster to Corris Primary School in Machynlleth, North Wales. In fact the rodent was left in his cage outside the school, leading staff to believe Harri fought off his attackers. Headteacher Olwen Griffiths said "Harri does bite if you startle him and there was blood on the cage so maybe he bit whoever was taking him, and it gave them second thoughts"A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed that scenes of crime officers were combing the area for evidence. He added "We are taking this matter very seriously" Extra vigilance is obviously advised, I just hope this is not the first of a spate of hamster kidnappings.john |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Feb 02 - 02:41 AM The fact that I was being driven through Machynlleth, North Wales several times last weekend, in a People Carrier filled with Computer Support Technicians and shopping has nothing to do with the hamster-napping incident. (Eric - wanna do a cheap deal??) MudGuard - yes, you are OK for Thursday, I had a mental aberration (not hard) and forgot. I'll PM you a phone number so when you come through London, give me a bell and I'll come home with you. The delights of London await us!!! LTS

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Feb 02 - 02:59 AM Oh, MudGuard, want to go to an Irish Session on Thursday night? LTS |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Manitas_at_home Date: 02 Feb 02 - 05:03 AM £15 is not cheap to sleep on a floor but we won't just be using York House to sleep, will we? We'll be there from early Friday evening until late on Sunday night enjoying the warmth and shelter. We'll have use of a hall for dancing, various rooms for singing and playing and car parking included. All this is at a commercial rate I presume? My local recently charged me £15 an hour for use of their one function room. Multiply that by say 50 hours and York House is beginning to look very cheap. No doubt you can go to a folk festival for as cheap as £20 but economies of scale kick in there, there are often grants available and publicans willing to let rooms for free in anticipation of increased sales. AS for the price being announced late wasn't there a warning SEVERAL weeks ago that it might come to £15 each? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Dave Bryant Date: 02 Feb 02 - 05:28 AM I didn't know anyone was laying on SHEEP -is this for the Welsh contingent ? Better get there early if you want a pretty one - perhaps it would be fairest if they're all clones of Dolly. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: JudeL Date: 02 Feb 02 - 06:11 AM Point of interest: Dai mentioned the figure of £15 in the last thread on 23rd Jan, and if you look back through the threads there were indications back towards the beginning that the cost was likely to something around that. To a certain extent until Dai knew how many people the cost of hiring the place was to be shared between (and the idea was to cover the cost of hire) he would not have known how much each, we needed to pay. In my area the cost is about that of 6 or 7 drinks and probably less than the fuel or other transport costs for most of us to get there. I wouldn't like to think how much time and effort this has taken to arrange but I'd like to thank Dai for doing so. Jude PS It looks hopeful that we might be able to get there after all but not till Sat afternoon |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Liz the Squeak Date: 02 Feb 02 - 07:16 AM Don't forget those hidden extras like the RAFFLE!!! Please bring a donation or buy a ticket or preferably both!! If you are lucky, you might win your bagpipe LP back again (ah, vengeance is mine.....) LTS |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Lanfranc Date: 02 Feb 02 - 07:20 AM I'll only be there on Saturday, and not too late in the evening at that - I have to run the rescue boats at my sailing club on Sunday - but count me in for a £10 contribution, anyway, plus something for a couple of beers. Kevin (McGrath)- do you want a lift? Leaving Harlow about 9am and returning about midnight (ie leaving SS about 10pm) Alan |

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Snuffy Date: 02 Feb 02 - 01:52 PM Eric, In the Yorkshire Gathering 2002? thread, Les from Hull writes: It's a shame about the ceilidh, but I don't think that, as a group, we're committed dancers. Last year, I think we had more in the band than there were on the floor! But I did enjoy the playing What makes you think Stony Stratford will be different? WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: alanww Date: 02 Feb 02 - 02:26 PM Maybe Dai has invited the local folk dance club, Snuffy - or, if he hasn't done so already, how about it Dai? (They could come for a nominal £2.50 contribution or whatever, which would reduce the overall cost for the residents!) I am the lord of the dance said he ...! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: John MacKenzie Date: 02 Feb 02 - 03:12 PM No dancing for me! |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: John Routledge Date: 02 Feb 02 - 03:16 PM I will pay a £2.50 fee per head of any dance club who may be invited NOT to have them invited :0) Cheers John |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: vectis Date: 03 Feb 02 - 09:35 AM Mc Grath I should be going past you on the M25 at about 4:30 to 5:30 is on Friday pm. It's only a short step to Harlow so I could pop in and pick you up. If interested post here or PM me. Regards Mary. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Mrs.Duck Date: 03 Feb 02 - 11:00 AM Although I stand by my feelings about the cost of this weekend my comments in the earlier posting were uncalled for and I apologise for them. I hope you do all have a great time and we will see you some other time. Jane |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Eric the Viking Date: 03 Feb 02 - 12:46 PM Well, are we having a ceilidh or not? What about a session? Actually the celiedh at the last Yorkshire gathering was very well attended. Les actually says-he enjoyed the music There was even a morris team-well,longsword team and people from the village, and if non mudcatters are interested then they are able to come arn't they? I wasn't telling people to dance-I was INVITING them if they wished. I myself don't dance-but I love playing the tunes and I don't want to get contentcious, but is there going to be a place for intrumentalists to play and have a session or not? Not that I mind singing, and have been known to scare cat's away with my voice, but I enjoy playing along. Is it a mixed affair or a singers weekend? |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Snuffy Date: 03 Feb 02 - 01:29 PM I have had more subtle invtations than "shut yer gobs and dance you buggers". I'm hoping there's going to somewhere in York House for a session and somewhere else for a singaround at the same time, so everybody gets to do what they want. And the times in the pubs should work out as a bit of both singing and playing. WassaiL! V |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: GUEST Date: 03 Feb 02 - 02:05 PM Thanks for the apology, Mrs.Duck Appreciated Not always easy to say that here

Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: alanww Date: 03 Feb 02 - 03:51 PM I don't doubt that there will be plenty of musicians for a session (at York House and/or at a local pub) but experience elsewhere has suggested that us Mudcatters are more into singing and playing than dancing. I will certainly be interested in joining a session myself, if you will allow a novice to have a go! Gather round circle of friends ... |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Liz the Squeak Date: 03 Feb 02 - 04:40 PM some of us like to dance but would die if we did.... so we go singing instead..... LTS |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: Ferret Date: 03 Feb 02 - 04:52 PM Where on the London Rd is York House? I look at Streetmap.com but that was no help. so pleaes pleaes HELP, pleaes? all the best ferret |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: The_one_and_only_Dai Date: 04 Feb 02 - 03:38 AM As stated somewhere in the maelstrom of threads about this subject, York House is just to the south of the turning for Clarence Road (off London Road) if that helps. A useful landmark is the Peugeot dealer just next door. The innovative bods who run the place (York House that is) have come up with the great idea of marking the building's presence with a big sign, reading 'York House'. |
Subject: RE: Stony Stratford: Armageddon From: mooman Date: 04 Feb 02 - 04:01 AM Dear Friends, Apologies to all as Lady McMoo and I won't be able to make Stony Stratford due to a a bit of a current squeeze financially (Patricia was made redundant a few months ago but those bills just do not stop!). I had hoped to combine it with a work trip but that just won't work my way on this occassion. This is a great shame as we were looking forward to a great weekend of music and to meeting friends old and new. I hope everything is a resounding success and take my hat off to Dai and his helpers for what looks like a great bit of organization. We will be seeing some of you I know at the forthcoming Brussels EuroGathering on 3-6 May and we are looking forward enormously to that. Have a great weekend! Best regards, mooman (Richard) P.S. Apologies to Lady Penelope for not being able to join you in that skinnydip! (8>) |
