Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Little Hawk Date: 29 May 03 - 07:05 PM Spaw...you said "Great Googally Moogally" (except you spelled it wrong). That means you must be reading Liberty Meadows, my new most favourite comic of all time! Awright! Rick, for a lot of really great laughs, get yourself a few copies of the comic "Liberty Meadows". The antics of Ralph (the miniature circus bear) and Leslie (the hypochondriac bullfrog) are enough in themselves to justify the expenditure. And then there's Brandy...Brandy is unforgettable. You can find it on the Net at Libertymeadows.com and peruse it for free too. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Rick Fielding Date: 29 May 03 - 08:35 PM Huh? Gargoyle? Is he wishing me dead? he may actually get his wish, 'cuz this is serious, but seriously, could he have been kidding? He's got a wicked daytime sense of humour. Either way, all the best greg. *************************************************************** Got a private nurse coming in tomorrow to re-hydrate me again! Sounds so exotic but it's just a bag of Saline something. I start back with the chemo on Monday after having a few days off. Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: bbc Date: 29 May 03 - 08:48 PM Thanks for letting us all know, Rick. Did you notice that folks care? This is outside my experience, but you know my thoughts & prayers are with you & Heather in this time & my love, always. Barbara |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Dave Swan Date: 29 May 03 - 08:48 PM Running around in your innards squirting balls of flubber. Great. Rick, I love you and I'd do that for a pal and I'm quite sure that Pam would put on the Raquel Welch wetsuit. But all in all aren't you glad that that clodhopper from Ohio isn't in charge of your health care? Don't think that this will excuse you from the annual partners meeting of LFPS, Layabouts for Hire. You've been the year's top producer and there is the matter of a bonus to be disbursed. D |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 29 May 03 - 09:56 PM Don't forget to eat cornbread if the chemo won't let you eat much else. Also, if you get bored, start more provocative Mudcat threads...or recycle some old classics for the newbies. I remember several that got me through some tough days. Maybe we can all do the same for you if this chemo regime gets tedious. You know you best, so keep on doing what you're doing. And I know you won't be offended...but like my dear friend J. said when she started chemo last fall, "Hell, just thinking about me is lame, I want prayers!" Ya got 'em , friend. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: SINSULL Date: 29 May 03 - 10:15 PM Rick, Thanks for putting it all out in the open. We've been worried out here in cyberspace. One day at a time. And give Heather frequent hugs. You can both use them. Anything at all, just PM a list. Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Li'l Aussie Bleeder Date: 29 May 03 - 11:02 PM When 'He who must be obeyed' returned from his B/day visit to Canada last August and hinted that the funny bloke who sent me greetings on his video camera, wasn't very well, but not to say anything. I have been busting ever since, trying to keep my gob shut as I have a friend who writes to Mudcat. Now thank God, the CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG!!! and I don't have to be so careful.(My son says "Zip it, Mother"). I have been enjoying your CD enormously since he bought it home and there is a bed for you and Heather on the west coast of Oz if your next Tour makes it this far. MS can fill you in (It'll take that long!!). |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: p.j. Date: 29 May 03 - 11:06 PM I love you, Rick-- and many kisses to Heather. Glad you're out of the closet, as it were. Even had Max paying attention! Jeri wasn't 'quite' awake yet, but Dick Greenhaus and many others were... that amazing stringed instrument workshop harps, zithers, cellos, guitars, banjos, fiddles...and in the best weather possible. the guitar lesson .... she may not have it all perfect yet, Rick...get well, buddy, you still have notes to play and stuff to teach. Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: harvey andrews Date: 30 May 03 - 01:49 PM Rick, sometime go and get that "Journey" cd I gave you and play the title track. I'll be singing it just for you my friend. The lyric conclusion is..."Love's the journey" and as you see from all the above you've got love in spades, but Wendy and I are keeping a little back for Heather. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: KathWestra Date: 30 May 03 - 03:21 PM Dear Rick, Oh dear one. I'd heard mutterings that you weren't up to snuff, but had no idea what you'd been going through. Thanks for taking it public so that all of us who love you can remind you of that fact. Know that you're in my thoughts, and that I'm sending much, much love to you and Heather. This is a tough one, but you're tough too.And you have LOTS of friends wishing you well. XO Kath p.s. My late Mom, when she began noting how often her contemporaries (then in their 60s) were talking about their various ailments, began referring to those frequent discussions as "organ recitals." It's a term that's always tickled me. If you call your post an "organ recital," it could be a music thread! |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Rick Fielding Date: 31 May 03 - 11:34 AM SEAMUS!!! Nope, I'm gonna start a thread about it rather than mention it here! By the way folks, thank you from the bottom of my heart (and vice-versa!) Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Fortunato Date: 31 May 03 - 02:43 PM Hello, Rick. I'm very glad to see your post; I've been checking for your posts, hoping to catch you on and send my best wishes. You managed to make that awful list of invasive and surely downright painful procedures sound humorous. I want to join all the mudcatters and send you all the best of healing wishes. May the next year be better in every way. Besides, we can't have you wearing out the backside of your shorts for ever; we want you out in that garden, boy, not watching the lovely Heather, fun though it may be. cheers, my friend, Chance |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST,Nancy King at work Date: 31 May 03 - 03:48 PM Hey Rick! Keep mending, friend. There are many good thoughts and prayers coming to you from your Mudcat pals, me included. We'll be looking for you at the Getaway! All the best, Nancy |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST,Sandy Paton (on the other computer) Date: 31 May 03 - 04:57 PM BBC told me that you'd had a coming-out party, Rick. Sorry I arrived late, but I've had little time for exploring the 'Cat lately. You know how much Caroline and I care for you, so I needn't go into that. I do want to say that we really miss your once-so-frequent phone calls, and urge you to continue the habit. That 800 number seems to work from Toronto, so make use of it, lad. Sandy |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: katlaughing Date: 05 Jun 03 - 11:43 AM So, how ya doing this week, Rick? I heard someone heard you on the radio the other night, which is good to know.:-) luvyakat |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Mark Clark Date: 05 Jun 03 - 01:18 PM Well this is a fine turn of affairs. I spend a few days in the Boundary Waters and come back to find Mudcat down and no sooner do Max and Jeff get it restored but I find this news. Rick, please add my prayers and best wishes to all the others here. I look forward to your full recovery. - Mark |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Rick Fielding Date: 05 Jun 03 - 06:26 PM Well I'm not ready for the "Nacker Man" yet (is that the right expression?) but I'm back on the chemo for three weeks, and it makes me very tired. This is a real drag and of course it's hard as hell on Heather, but I certainly appreciate the good wishes. Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: harvey andrews Date: 05 Jun 03 - 07:10 PM It's the "Knacker's yard" Rick. Where old and useless horses finish up. Certainly doesn't apply to a stallion like you! Keep jumping those fences. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST,Blind DRunk in Blind River Date: 05 Jun 03 - 07:19 PM Man what a downer. I have been known to be a bit crude at times but I ain't a total bonehead eh? So like I wanta send my good wishes from Blind River and hope you make a speedy recovery eh? I met a guy who seen you play Blind River once way back years ago and he said you were pretty good even if you did'nt play Smoke On The Water or Stairway to Heaven or even Highway to Hell like he requested at the time. He says he is really sorry now that he threw that beer bottle at you and he wishes he could do something to appologise for it properly. Get well, man. Seriously. - BDiBR |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Tinker Date: 05 Jun 03 - 10:40 PM Was thinking of you today.... I had a full set of tips put on yesterday ( mandatory buisness black tie) and spent today filing down my left hand and trying to figure if I could keep any of it and still play. In fact, I came on to pull up the old threads on fake nails... Oh, and then there was the time last night when a "distinguished gentleman of color" wanted to know how I had learnt so much about roots music... "Well, you know that weekend of folkmusic I go to every year... There's a few folkies, -white boys, actually keepin' the music alive and teaching anyone who will listen... now let me tell you where to start lookin'.." Thanks Rick. Then I read this.... Blessings and Light for both of you... Kathy |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 05 Jun 03 - 11:31 PM Didn't know, Rick. For what it's worth you are in this little round sorta-agnostic, pseudo-Taoist's thoughts and prayers. Jeremiah |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Willie-O Date: 06 Jun 03 - 07:41 AM Rick, I think your backyard garden has recuperative powers. We're thinking about you buddy, and me and the guitar will try to visit sometime this summer. Bill |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Rick Fielding Date: 07 Jun 03 - 10:23 PM One of the more irritating little things is that while I'm on the chemo I HAVE to drink 8 glasses of water a day. I have not been a good boy about this, starting to gag by about the fifth one. Seem to have solved the problem today.....it's Welch's grape juice and a third water.....much more palatable, and surprise surprise, I had twice the amount of energy today than I've had in the last month. Hope it keeps up. Cheers Rick |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST,Arnie Date: 07 Jun 03 - 11:15 PM 8 glasses of water! there's a song in that. You'd better keep the banjo by the toilet just in case. Get well my friend |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: katlaughing Date: 08 Jun 03 - 12:22 AM I do two quarts a day, at least, Rick, but that's all I drink and I like water.:-) I load up a quart sippie with ice and water, keep adding water and just sip throughout the day. Seems to work better than trying to down one 8 ounce glass at a time, physically and psychologically. fwiw*bg* |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Annie Date: 08 Jun 03 - 05:23 PM Rickster and Heather: Whoa!! Big job taking those treatments. We gotcha covered with prayers and thoughts for licking this. Eight glasses a day, huh? They (who are 'they' anyway?) used to tell us women to do that, and we all did, - for at least a week! I start drinking 8 glasses every day. I just forget to finish. I'll make it through 8 tomorrow so I can remember just how much water that is!! Love ya, Annie |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Art Thieme Date: 09 Jun 03 - 12:08 AM Rick, When your bag gets sort of full, just take a permanent marker and draw a smiley face on it. The yellow liquid behind the smile is certain to intrigue and fascinate children and adults of all ages----especially if the bag is one of those round ones. I did this in St. Mary's Hospital at Mayo Clinic and gained a certain fame around there. ;-) Art |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Marion Date: 09 Jun 03 - 02:10 AM If the amount of sugar you're consuming by drinking that much juice is a concern (and I have no idea if it is or not, I'm just saying IF), another thing you could try is making dilute ice tea (herbal or decaf). I use one teabag for a 2L bottle of water and find that this subtle flavouring makes it easier for me to drink lots of water. Marion |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: black walnut Date: 09 Jun 03 - 08:46 AM Drink it straight from the lake, Rick. No sugar....lots of flavour! ~b.w. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Rick Fielding Date: 09 Jun 03 - 10:59 AM Good grief Art! Bag? Yellow liquid? Smiley Face? Did I get something confused here?! What I'm dealing with is bad enough, but if it comes down to a catheter to remove stuff, I'll be ready for the gas pipe, Ha ha! I went through that for a few days last year when I was in the hospital, and it is SERIOUSLY unpleasant. Boy, this is a drag, but I sure appreciate the support. Cheers Rick |
