As was said above, even though you know it's inevitable, there is great pain in losing a parent. His memory is alive for you and through you, so share stories about him with us when you're ready.

I have lost Dad's will but it is a blessing in disguise since I am unearthing gems from the past. Today I found his 3rd grade report card. How many kids do you know who can claim an F-? I will share his teacher's thoughts another time.
Thank you for your thoughts.
Mary

I'm sure you'll find his better report cards soon. Haven't you seen those ads on TV for the study aids? "Where there's a will, there's an "A" !

I remember finding lots of things that had new significance for me when I went through my father's home as I administered his estate. It's a difficult job, but you learn a lot. Good luck with your work.

Here's a necessary phrase for you: "Fairly well, considering."
This is your stock answer to all -- the uncaring polites, as well as the loving friends -- who ask how it's going. The true friends may ask "Considering what", and you can tell them if you're having a bad time, 'cause they'll be looking for a way to help you cope. Keep extra tissue. You'll be shocked at the minuteness of what can start the waterworks. You will have already steeled yourself to the big stuff. The only way out is through, but it really becomes a permanent part of your path. He has never not existed for you; physiologically you don't know a world without him. Ask your real friends (you seem to have many) to keep their care-antennae out towards you as you go through this, 'cause shock can rear its head at times in peculiar ways. Voice of experience.

Eat healthy, get some exercise. Accept help from a few of thoe friends to go through effects. Don't spend too much time alone during this. For your own protection.

God bless and comfort you (comfort from 2 Latin words indicating "with strength").

Hey Lady, love, light and biggest hugs headed out your way. My first thought was all the wonderful songs you've shared with us that came from your Dad's singing. I'll be waiting for you at Getaway and bringing great hugs. Okay, mine are only so so but since Alaska Mike is sharing the ride I can deliver great hugs. Sending my best your way. We'll raise a glass and a song for him at Getaway.

I hope you are doing better since the first news hit you. These losses never stop hurting but the memories lessen the load. Take a long walk down by the ocean and talk to him for a while. It might help.

I can only offer virtual hugs from 8,000 miles away but if you remember my real hugs you can imagine what I am offering you.
