Subject: Lyr Add: A BEAUTIFUL LIFE From: freda underhill Date: 14 Oct 06 - 07:33 AM she's gone to the place where there's no setting sun, Jerry. What a beautiful road she walked - here's a song for her! A Beautiful Life Each day I'll do a golden deed, By helping those who are in need; My life on earth is but a span, And so I'll do the best I can. Refrain: Life's evening sun is sinking low, A few more days, and I must go To meet the deeds that I have done, Where there will be no setting sun. To be a child of God each day, My light must shine along the way; I'll sing His praise while ages roll, And strive to help some troubled soul. The only life that will endure, Is one that's kind and good and pure; And so for God I'll take my stand, Each day I'll lend a helping hand. I'll help someone in time of need, And journey on with rapid speed; I'll help the sick and poor and weak, And words of kindness to them speak. While going down life's weary road, I'll try to lift some trav'ler's load; I'll try to turn the night to day, Make flowers bloom along the way. She taught you well, Jerry best wishes freda |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: frogprince Date: 15 Oct 06 - 07:42 PM "We grieve not as those with no hope"; which is not to belittle the pain of parting for now, and the missing, and the moments when you will feel like calling up to share some moment of joy. Condolences, from a stranger who feels that he knows a good man just a little. Dean. |
Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 15 Oct 06 - 08:15 PM Jerry, she seems like she was a great lady! Were my mother still alive she would be 100, but she died at 63. Like yours she had a great love of music and song, so I can relate and feel for you! With sympathy, Sandy |
Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: GLoux Date: 16 Oct 06 - 10:46 AM Jerry, It is indeed so sad to say goodbye to your mother. You were really blessed to have her for 99 years. Your memory of her is a treasure. Condolences, -Greg |
Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: Big Al Whittle Date: 17 Oct 06 - 02:40 AM Deep and very sincere condolences Jerry. Whatever one seems to say in these circumstances seems clumsy and inadequate. Still I suppose an internet page is just the format for us to be our clumsy inadequate selves. We all value the way in which your music and the gentle decency of your contributions to mudcat enrich our lives Jerry, and if there were some bypassing of the tears, I know everybody and each one of us would be rushing to point out the way. Lots of us will thinking of you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: Sandy Paton Date: 17 Oct 06 - 02:53 AM We're thinking of you, Jerry, and of Ruth, and the boys (who are no longer boys). We are so glad you got to make that final visit. Caroline and I went down to Virginia to visit my father on his 100th birthday and were glad we did when he died three months later. I'll always remember him telling me, "The last few years haven't been much fun." Sometimes it must be best to simply let go. As the songs says: "Sleep on, Beloved; sleep and take your rest." With all our love, Sandy and Caroline |
Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: Grab Date: 17 Oct 06 - 07:39 AM All the best for you and your family while you come to terms with this. Às Clinton says, 99 years of music and family is a damn good run. Nothing you can do better while you're here than pass on your loves to other people, and see it spread out further from there. I hope she knew that she'd made a difference. Graham. PS. My "Mildly Inappropriate Connections Module" has just set off "99 red balloons" on continuous play in my head. Which is kind of odd, but kind of nice at the same time. :-/ |

Subject: RE: BS: Obit: Esther Rasmussen From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 21 Oct 06 - 11:06 PM There are so many of you who have offered kind words, enc ouragement and prayers on thsi thread, the kitchen table thread and PMs that I can't poossibly thank all of you individually. And yet, each expression of concern and support have meant a great deal. I got back tonight and posted this on the kitchen table thread, so I'll add it here. My Mother was cremated and it wasn't until yesterday afternoon that we buried her ashes. This morning, I woke up early and these thoughts ran through my minds. Don't ask me where a line like "Love is not like a bicycle" came from. Maybe it was a subconscious rejection of all the Happiness Is A Warm Puppy Halmark sentiments that I found a little on the empty side. Love is definitely nothing like a bicycle Love Is Not Like A Bicycle Love is not like a bicycle You can't sit on it or ride it It is not of the physical world Love may be expressed through words But words are not love Actions speak louder than words But actions are not love Love is not limited by time or space Love is omnipresent Love is God and God is love In loving, we touch divinity On Friday, October 13th, my Mother died But her love didn't die Neither did our love for her True love never dies I'm doing pretty good. with a lot yet to sort out. I brought home a big box of old photographs and am continuing to write a book of family memoirs and songs. Even got an expression of itnerest in carrying and publicizing the book I haven't yet written... Thanks for everything. The Cat is a good place to be Jerry |
