Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Mrs.Duck Date: 27 Jul 07 - 09:09 AM Traders and food etc have set up on hardstanding behind Guy Nelson Hall. Field is still very wet but weather is holding. At present only tents and caravans towed by 4x4s are allowed onto the field but there is a small amount of hard standing although very limited. The puddles in the middle of the field are reducing but organisers are concerned that if ordinary cars get on they may not get off!! Luckily the beer tent has not dried up!! Signing off now so see you all soon. Jane |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Ruth Archer Date: 27 Jul 07 - 09:54 AM so are there alternative parking arrangements? How are we supposed to get our stuff from our cars to the field? |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Rasener Date: 27 Jul 07 - 11:34 AM Just seen this on the website. I don't know if that is new or old info We regret that June Tabor will be unable to appear at the festival due to ilness |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: r.padgett Date: 30 Jul 07 - 10:03 AM Went! a good festival spirit and great guests That Spookey Men's Chorale had me in stitches, what a sense of humour! Good to see everyone again and The Roebuck had some great music and song The weather on Sunday was much better than expected and the ground sense and stewarding was exceptional avoiding many potential "tow offs" this is great for festival such as Warwick which is so open to weather problems Thanks to all Ray |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Saro Date: 30 Jul 07 - 11:03 AM Yes, thanks from CMR as well - what a lovely weekend, and what wonderful singers at the harmony workshop! if any of you are reading this, well done, you were fantastic. Colin and stewards obviously did a great job, and who ever sorted out the weather, can you do the same for Whitby please! saro |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Ruth Archer Date: 30 Jul 07 - 11:06 AM The stewards and management are to be congratulated for turning out another fantastic festival in pretty challenging circumstances! Thanks all, and well done. |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Folkiedave Date: 30 Jul 07 - 11:42 AM Can I just add (as a trader) my personal thanks - and I will be writing to the school - for the help of the ground staff of the school? It must have hurt them considerably to see the ground being churned up by vehicles. All they ever did was do their best to help. "We want to see it go ahead" said one of them. The reason for this was because apparently we are less trouble than the 4,000 Baptists they are expecting next. Thanks to those who came to visit the stall, browsed, chatted, bought books, made coffee for me, brought ginger beer, strawberries and even those who practised their melodeon. Let me re-phrase that - especially those who practised their melodeon. thread.cfm?threadid=103680&messages=22#2114774 |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: r.padgett Date: 30 Jul 07 - 01:33 PM The most abiding memory for me was in the late night Arts Centre ran by Brian Rogers again when Damian Barber accompanied himself on English concertina and sang The Foggy Dew ~ very well, now there was a sprightly elderly chap sitting quite near to him and the sheer joy and emotion was truly evident and I was moved by his reaction he later chatted to Damian Later this chap accompanied himself on Anglo and sang "The Road to Dundee", a very lovely moment again! Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: My guru always said Date: 30 Jul 07 - 04:39 PM My thanks too, to Dick, the Stewards and all who kept Warwick going this year! Having heard about the 'lakes' & 'no vehicles' on the Thursday evening I was prepared for the worst, but Warwick brought it all together & looked after us all!! Loved Brian's late night sings as always, what wonderful acoustics in there! So glad that he opened up early & stayed late to keep us all happy. Think Breton Cap may have assisted, if so more thanks to you Dave! Wonderful to hear Hissyfit again (note to self: must try to get further North) and to meet so many smiling Catters & yes, I signed FolkieDave's Guestbook but it looked like lots of Catters names were missing from the signing book *naughty, naughty* And as for the Spooky Men, well, they were absolutely Fab!! Looking forward to next year's Warwick already...... |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: skipy Date: 30 Jul 07 - 04:48 PM Well done to Dick & his team, cracking Warwick as always. Question:- Just how many Col Ks are there? everywhere you went you would see one of them Day & night! If there are only 5, they must be dead on their feet! Skipy |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Pistachio Date: 30 Jul 07 - 04:57 PM Safe home with the Beverley Contingent! Great to see and hear so many 'catters. Loved the songs Mrs Lemon and My Guru sang on Friday night and enjoyed the 'ladies' set on Sunday morning. I submitted a comment on the lack of singaround venues ... and I heard that, by popular request, the 'late sing' started rather early on Saturday evening! (Just sorry I had to be elsewhere Sat pm.) The Bowling Green and Punch Bowl kept the piped music/juke box on while people sang! Not what I expected at all. Thanks to the Festival crew for their stewarding and management. Did anyone else notice the cloudless sky on Sunday evening just before Keith D's set? The Spooky men were brill! Great to hear them in (and out of)the beer tent until the early hours! See you next year. Hazel |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Linda Kelly Date: 30 Jul 07 - 05:02 PM I got sunburnt -how weird is that? thanks for My Guru for port cheese and wonderful company, to Ray P Col K the Ducks and every one from Hull for the rolling folk festival which makes summers so great in any weather. A wonderful festival the gorgeous Spooky Men who sang in the bar till 4.00am totally awesome, to the joyous late night singing run by Brian amd meeting old friends Noreen KAB etc who I catch up with so rarely. Not long until the next one-where's the insect repellant? |

Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: GUEST,Sally the lemonade lady Date: 30 Jul 07 - 07:09 PM Linda; your song on Friday night was wonderful. I loved chatting to you over the counter. Hope you got home safely. Great to see you. So on to Sidmouth? Please note everyone.... I am not the Citrus Grove, I am The Lemonade Lady. Ta Sal |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: muppitz Date: 31 Jul 07 - 07:46 AM I didn't know there was a list otherwise I would have made the effort to sign it! I was a Moor & Coast slave as per usual so if you were in it over the weekend you may have known I was there! Had a bit of a walk round town on Saturday and stumbled into the open mic at the Punch Bowl, so I did a little bit of playing. I had a good time despite the mud! However I was a little narked at all of the teenybopping groupies Seth Lakeman seems to have gained, most people at the front dancing seemed to be there hero worshipping him because he's nice to look at rather than him being a good musician. Enjoyed Steve Tilston and Malinky thoroughly, I really wish Malinky would come down to England more often, the Quarterpounders are a bit nifty too, their flautist managed to play a Michael McGoldrick tune with a dislocated thumb, ceilidh dancing to the Glorystrokes is clearly bad for your health! muppitz x |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Les from Hull Date: 31 Jul 07 - 09:55 AM We enjoyed really Warwick this year (well we do every year!) but we must congratulate the incredible organisation in the way it dealt with all the problems thrown at them by the weather. We should particularly mention the great work done by the Task Force workers - they were the ones who had to bear the brunt of the extra work. And still smiling faces everywhere! We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, making new ones and hearing great music everywhere. Roll on next year! Les and Maggie |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: GUEST,KAB Date: 31 Jul 07 - 12:32 PM Another splendid Warwick. Thanks to Dick Dixon et al. Echo the special mention for the school staff who throughout had a very positive "can do" attitude and a determination to achieve success. Thank you to all Festival goers who put up with some inconveniences and necessary changes to the well oiled routine that Warwick prides itself on. Good to hear the lovely and dulcet harmonies of "Hissyfit" once more and to put faces to some more Mudcat names,Les from Hull and Maggie amongst others. |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: Mr Red Date: 31 Jul 07 - 02:43 PM Yea - a thanks to the groundsman who Ok'd it for me to push my van onto the site. at 200Kg it is lighter than trailer tents by a long way, less damage to grass and less stick in mud - which was very much a factor in choosing it (I could never be a stick in mud). |
Subject: RE: Warwick F F who is going? From: GUEST,Col K Date: 31 Jul 07 - 05:06 PM Many thanks for all your comments about the festival. It was hard work for many people, Stewards, Task Force, Campsite and Management and especially Gary and Nigel from the School. Skipy there is only one me, and I is tired only got home today tuesday at about 3.30pm. We want to thank all of our festival goers for their understanding of the problems on thursday and friday, for the Dunkirk spirit which seemed to appear, and for the fabulous weekend which could not have happened without you lot working so hard at enjoying yourselves. Thank you all, see you next year July 25/26/27 for the 30th Warwick FF. Col |
