Subject: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:04 AM After all the severe weather warnings of a foot of snow all over the UK, just wondering if where we live, have we just been lucky. Haven't seen any snow at all. Monday 19th March 2007. Have we been tricked? |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: John MacKenzie Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:05 AM About 2" here in the Highlands last night, lots of snow flurries today, but the snow's too wet and the temperature's too high, so it ain't sticking around. Giok |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:20 AM Flurries only here in Yorkshire - much to my disappointment. I just love snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: fat B****rd Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:26 AM About 5 minutes of slight sleet here in sunny Newton Aycliffe. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Hawker Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:30 AM hail stones here, but no snow! Cheers, Lucy |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Midchuck Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:33 AM We got it in Vermont, US, when I thought we were done for the year. I'll ship it over if you want. Peter. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: GUEST,Sparticus Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:36 AM If there's the possibility of a few snowflakes falling over London it has become routine to release severe weather warnings to the effect that the end of the world is nigh. This must be baffling to those who live in upland regions where snow is the norm at this time of year. Compared to snowfalls twenty or thirty years ago it's a disgrace when everything comes to a standstill when we get a heavy frost. A few snow flurries here in the North East of England but not lying. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: The PA Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:41 AM 3 Inches Sunday night north of Brum Snow and sleet on and off, windy in sunny Worcestershire, but nothing settling. Sunny now, but looks like there's something wild brewing in the distance. Gone very cold. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: The PA Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:45 AM Just read post before me. After the last snow our company decreed that if you could not get into work, you did not have to book it as a days holiday, as in previous years. Very generous we thought. However this was really taken advantage of this morning, people using it as an excuse for a lie in. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Scooby Doo Date: 19 Mar 07 - 09:57 AM No snow here in Llantrisant,South Wales Scooby |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:04 AM So they must have sent it over to where Midchuck lives. You can keep it :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: John MacKenzie Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:12 AM The high winds seem to have been the main problem here, I have lost my mobile phone service, and it's been down since Saturday. Of course nobody tells you there is a problem, and looking on the net for info is a total waste of time! G. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:18 AM We have just had a few flurries of snow here in Market Rasen Lincolnshire and its gone bitterly cold. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Ruth Archer Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:26 AM some hard bursts of snow and wind in Lincs, but melting quickly. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Folkiedave Date: 19 Mar 07 - 11:36 AM Still getting bursts of hailstones which last night froze, leading to a traffic warning on BBC. (makes a change from M1 blocked around Meadowhell). Monday afternoon, 4.00 pm - just had another. Nothing lying though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Paco Rabanne Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:01 PM We went mountain biking at Wintringham just north of Wetwang yesterday morning, and the snow came at us horizantally in a gale force wind for half an hour. It was the coldest I've been for years, then the sun came out and bye bye snow |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: GUEST,GS Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:10 PM Not a foot of snow in Gainsborough Les but it snowed on my foot! Must get me cookie back now. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: jacqui.c Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:11 PM Lots of the white stuff in Maine. We had a snowstorm Friday night/Saturday morning and then it froze, hard. At the moment the ice crust is solid enough to walk on, but there's over a foot of snow under that crust. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Phillip Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:11 PM In Ascot we have had rain, snow, hail, bright sunshine and two claps of thunder. No fog though - pity really, almost a full house. I would have won £87,000,000 for a full house from this betting website in the far east somewhere. At least that's what they said when I gave them my credit card details. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Catherine Jayne Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:13 PM Just a flurry here in East London, well, more like sleet. It's a tad chilly but no foot of snow! |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 19 Mar 07 - 12:56 PM Mike - Are you sure thats not dandruff on your foot LOL :-) Ascot where my daughter was born. Must tell her about the freak weather you are having down there. :-) Is Heatherwood hospital still in existance these days? |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Georgiansilver Date: 19 Mar 07 - 01:04 PM Les, Dandruff on my foot...whos head would it be from...not mine given the amount of hair I have....or haven't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: John MacKenzie Date: 19 Mar 07 - 01:34 PM Aha, they do say that you can tell if someone's not wearing underwear when you spot dandruff on their shoes. G |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Phillip Date: 19 Mar 07 - 02:10 PM Heatherwood is very much still in existence - in fact that's where I work. The maternity block (where part of Carry On Matron was filmed) has had a revamp. The rest of the site hasn't, and could do with it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: nutty Date: 19 Mar 07 - 03:19 PM a few short bursts of hailstones this afternoon but nothing like the weather forcasters were promising. It seems that they are so frightened of getting it wrong that they overstate the expected conditions. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 19 Mar 07 - 03:41 PM Phillip Did it lose the A&E. From my memory, that was closing down some 9 years ago when we lived there. If it did, did it work by making emergencies go to Slough? Les |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Phillip Date: 20 Mar 07 - 03:04 AM A&E closed down, now that's all at Wexham Park in Slough. Heatherwood just has minor injuries. Does it work? Well, we keep meeting the government's criteria for the number of patients seen in a certain time... |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Splott Man Date: 20 Mar 07 - 03:56 AM You want to get out more Scooby. We had a sleet flurries followed by a good blizzard for an hour late on Sunday in Pontyclun. It had all gone by Monday morning, but I did see a few cars still heavily laden with snow on the M4. Splott Man |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:24 AM Phillip What I meant was having to take people from say Bracknell to Slough in an emergency (not worth thinking about in the rush hour). From my memory the concern was the risk of life having to get to Slough rather that Heatherwood. Still no snow. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Crane Driver Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:24 AM A few brief hail showers passed over Swansea on Monday, but otherwise nothing. Slightly colder than it has been, but positively warm compared to this time last year. Andrew |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Mo the caller Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:42 AM A couple of 2 min. burst of hail/snow in Cheshire on Mon. Very cold wind. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Phillip Date: 20 Mar 07 - 05:44 AM Bracknell to Slough, especially in the rush hour is a nightmare. It can take an hour to get from Ascot to Wexham Park (and it's only about 15 miles) I certainly get no complaints from people coming to see me at Heatherwood, but they do often complain about having to go up to Wexham. And these are routine outpatient appointments, not emergencies. People living in Bracknell have wanted another hospital for a long time, but the chances of that are very slight, as there are too many acute hospitals nearby already (Royal Berks, Frimley Park, St. Peter's as well as Heatherwood and Wexham Park.) There was a document issued last year announcing a look at the future of Heatherwood and Wexham Park, but so far no report published on any findings. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: Rasener Date: 20 Mar 07 - 06:54 AM With the traffic chaos down there,it doesn't make sense that Heatherwood was downgraded. |
Subject: RE: BS: Was there this foot of snow in the UK ? From: john f weldon Date: 09 Mar 08 - 04:56 PM I thought some of our British folkie cousins might like these shots. Maybe be a little envious? Though, frankly, I'm getting a little sick of the stuff. Snowy Spring in Montreal |
