Subject: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:50 PM The best one is certainly Nina Gerber. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Wesley S Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:57 PM How about "favorite" as opposed to "best"? |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST Date: 26 Mar 07 - 02:59 PM Why, are you suggesting that there's a female folk guitarist from California who's better than Nina Gerber? I find that hard to believe. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Leadbelly Date: 26 Mar 07 - 03:10 PM Sorry, I'm mistaken because there's another Nina Gerber. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Murray MacLeod Date: 26 Mar 07 - 03:11 PM her website says her home town as Sebastopol, California. She can justifiably be described as being " from California " |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Murray MacLeod Date: 26 Mar 07 - 03:11 PM ah, crossposting there ... |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Phil Cooper Date: 26 Mar 07 - 04:17 PM I've always liked the guitar playing of Mary McCaslin |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Richard Bridge Date: 26 Mar 07 - 04:37 PM Where was Bonnie Raitt from? |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: open mike Date: 26 Mar 07 - 04:38 PM Nina is so much MORE than a folk guitarist- she is the ultimate accompanist and can blend with the style of many musicians. She plays both acoustic and electric with ease and style. She played with Kate Wolf for many years, and is one of the performers at the Kate Wolf Fest. We often joke that there should just be an easy chair on stage for Nina, as she joins every band! http://www.ninagerber.com/ Laurie Lewis, although mainly a fiddler, also plays guitar. and Sally Van Meter is another California girl who is an awesome player....her guitar is a slide/dobro. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST Date: 26 Mar 07 - 06:31 PM Where was Bonnie Raitt from? She was born in beautiful downtown Burbank, but became known on the Cambridge, MA coffee house scene before hitting it big. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST,worker Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:27 PM Joan Baez. She is originally from Massachusetts but has since become a bonafide Californian. One of the finest folk guitarists (female or male)ever. |
|
Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST,Greycap Date: 26 Mar 07 - 07:50 PM Laurie Lewis is great, but, in my humble British opinion, Nina Gerber does it for me, too. Joan Baez is super as a vocalist and interpreter of fine material, her track record is impeccable, but her pickin' ain't near Nina's stuff. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST,worker Date: 26 Mar 07 - 08:14 PM To be honest Greycap I've never heard of Nina Gerber, but will check her out. |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: GUEST,Jim Date: 27 Mar 07 - 01:13 AM Sylvia Harrold ain't too shabby, either. |
|
Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Don Firth Date: 27 Mar 07 - 01:26 AM Barbara Dane? Jo Mapes? Don't know if they're from California, but they did a lot of playing and singing there. Don Firth |

Subject: RE: female folk guitarists from California From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Mar 07 - 01:57 AM I have to say that here in Northern California, Nina Gerber seems to be everybody's favorite all-round utility guitarist. DADGBE is another favorite, but he's not a she. -Joe- |
