I think Rick Fielding came up with a good one sometime back. I enjoyed that.
I enjoy the April Fool gags, but the day is not all a giggle for me. It's the day my Mum passed away seven years ago. Still, every day is a day like that for someone!

I was April-Fooled by a little feature on my computer. I have Linux (Ubuntu) which has a few optional amusing but utterly useless things that can sit quietly at the top of the screen. One of them is G Eyes, which looks like a pair of eyes that follows the cursor round.

Another is called Wanda the Fish. It looks like a goldfish that moves from side to side. If you click on her, you get a randomly generated saying. I happened to notice Wanda before I went to bed last night (well after midnight) and she was not moving - in fact, she was flopped down and looked dead.

When I clicked on her, I got a little window which said:

Wanda the Fish says:

The water needs changing.

See today's date!

The Home Office have entered into the spirit of the thing - they had everyone fooled that from today the Immigration Service would become the Borders and Immigration Agency, doing exactly the same things but needing new logos, stationary, branded clothing, door signs, warrants, computer programs, in fact everything. All to let Dr Reid off the hook for things that have gone wrong in the past due to weak and incompetent management.

A 'donut' is when a motorised vehicle is spun in a circle usually making lots of noise and tyre smoke - with a motorbike you can put one foot down, with a car, you hang on and pray you hit nothing. Some Formula One Drivers do it when they win, raising a huge cloud of smoke...

The loonies are much loved by the tyre manufacturers...

We get yahoos doing donuts round our roundabout sometimes on the weekend. Of course, just when you need them, there are no police to be seen. Sometimes we call it "chucking wheelies" - and that doesn't mean that they throw wheelie bins around, although that's been known to happen too.

We have a phrase here that we sometimes refer to our beloved politicians by.

It all seemed to start when Johnny Howard was in Washington on that Sept 11, although I do believe that the original phrase came from "Get Smart".

Several other pollies, have also had close shaves, including a couple of Federal Ministers in Indonesia who were not on the Garuda plane.

We say "Missed Him.... by THAT much!"
