What a shame !! Went to Chippenham twice myself in recent years---found it crowded, stuffy, ,soul-less, uninviting, dreary, unexciting, unwelcoming to "fringe " musicians, and generally right up its own botty-----but the charity shops are OK !! Hopefully, Bude will be more appreciative of ANYONE who turns up, not just the "pros ". !!

Wandered around Northern Ireland on Good Friday via Larne, Bushmills and the Giants Causeway - saw a hare in a field, - a good omen for me. Spent too much time in pubs in Belfast, drank too much Guiness, listened to a session or two, drank to Miskin. Toured Belfast and looked at the Murals. Went to one of Paul Rankins restaurants. Wrote a couple of speeches for my Trade Union Conference, listened to my General Secretary's speech. Made a few speeches. Ate too much, drank too much. BUT the most significant thing was catching up with the situation regarding teacher trade unionists in Colombia. Horrendous. Take a look at the Justice for Colombia website.

I am terrible at putting names to faces so if you recognise me, please come and tell me who you are! Give Eddie's bum a squeeze for me next time you see him!

Orthodox Jews rent a goy, known as the Sabbath (Shabbas) goy, to perform these chores for them.

Sorry !! But I thought----Well, you know !! I realise who you are now, by the way !! ( I am a friend and musical colleague of Eddie W and Amanda D ) ! But I did see a documentary on TV a few years back, about Ultra -Orthodox Jews in Israel, and they certainly would NOT unblock a loo or drain on the Sabbath !! They"re not even allowed to switch LIGHTS on and off !!Apparently, it"s a nightmare in hospitals ,and places like that.

Bubbly - I'm not Jewish, but surely even the most orthodox Jew would bend the rules to unblock a toilet! Besides, it meant I could go to B&Q (big hardware chain store) and buy the biggest plunger in the world!

Went with a friend to his sister's house, where I was introduced to one of those new-fangled martinis that are becoming popular - the "Apple-tini". Then, cheese and crackers, chips and dip, dinner was ham, stringbeans, the best potatoes au gratin I ever had, salad and wine. Everything was excellent.

Um... the Jewish people were eating lamb at Passover long before Jesus was crucified, only they had it with bitter herbs rather than mint jelly. Oddly enough, it's about the only time we DO eat lamb, usually at festivals we have beef.

I forgot to mention, I spent about an hour on the Saturday unblocking the toilet.   The two occurences are not connected.

Church service, church brunch, picked up mother and her friend and brought them back to our house for the day, off to the soup kitchen to do a few songs with husband, back home to cook dinner. Son and daughter-in-law and 2 grandsons and dog arrived. Lots of food, Easter egg hunt outdoors, Easter basket hunt indoors, phone calls from distant relatives, drove mother and friend home, sent son and family off, tears at parting, slept like a rock. Very good day.

Went to a vintage transport rally in the Lake District on saturday and had a ride on the East Lancashire Railway on sunday. The weather on both days was great and I thoroughly enjoyed myself even though I was really missing Miskin.
Hope all you others who had to miss Miskin also had a good but different time this year. Roll on next year and Miskin.

No offence to those of you who had lamb, but it just kills me to see people blithely talking of eating a leg from a lamb when it is such a symbol of Christianity, i.e. the lion lying down with the lamb, etc. It just seems a little ironic to me. Granted I am a vegetarian, but even someone saying they had ham doesn't strike me the same as the image of some poor little lamb running around on three legs. I know, *say lah vee*...had to say it anyway. I've noticed it on a couple of threads.

Days - tootling around a little corner of the North Sea, selling drinks to passengers and taking their fares. Also did my first such trip at the wheel [passengers unaware]. The morning removing of gull-shit is a bit of a chore, however.

Evenings - a couple of nice sessions, one night of doing laundry and such-like.

A pretty good weekend, all in all.

Shared a communion service on Maundy Thursday with a lamb casserole, conducted two services (one including communion) on Good Friday Morning, both of which were well attended, then attended another ecumenical service on Good Friday evening, which included a silent walk of witness from one church to another.
Easter Sunday presided over communion as we celebrated the resurrection and shared joy, peace and love.
Went to visit a friend later that day with my kids, shared a roast chicken dinner and some wine, played games in the garden and generally crashed after the hectic weekend.
Well I am a minister after all.

Found a case of 12 Worthington cream flow in a skip, 2 1/2 years out of date, drank them, am on number 10 now!
Sold a boat traler, an outboard motor & a valuable book on ebay.

My wife, Barbara, went to church in the morning. I (the resident heathen) stayed home and spent some practice time with the guitar (I'm working on a couple of new songs—planning a performance in the not too far distant future). Then, we I had eight guests over for dinner, a sumptuous repast prepared by Barbara, with others contributing various dishes. Had to put a couple of leaves in the dinning room table.

There was Rita, 87 years old, who used to be our upstairs neighbor, but now lives in a retirement home, I believe. We share an interest in opera and when she lived above us, she, Barbara, and I used to attend Seattle Opera productions together. Paul, a member of our writers' group, and his friend Philip (Paul is an excellent writer, and Philip is learning to play the theremin). Nora, an old friend (and neighbor) whom Barbara met when she was working as a procedures writer for the City of Seattle thirty years ago (Nora is now an equestrian dentist—she does dental work on horses. Good at it. She's kind of a "horse whisperer."). Jo and her daughter Denise, who attend nearby Central Lutheran Church. Barbara and Jo work together with a group of developmentally delay adults who meet at the church. Denise has a collection of medals she won for swimming in the Special Olympics. Bernice, a health care worker and good friend of ours (Bernice has been taking guitar lessons from me for about two years now). And Nancy, a singer and guitarist whom I met back in the early Sixties while singing in coffeehouses. Nancy is still very active musically, and among other things, she sings with the Medieval Women's Choir here in Seattle. In addition to guitar, she plays vielle (a medieval bowed stringed instrument) and hurdy-gurdy.

Jo brought shrimp cocktail. The main course included chicken parmagiana, ginger carrots, asparagus spears, a couple kinds of bread (bought from the local Trader Joe's), a few other dishes. Wine. Dessert consisted of large slabs of lemon cake (baked by Barbara) and three kinds of ice cream (mix and match to taste). Coffee.

Sat around afterward burping and scratching. Good conversation with pleasant and enjoyable people. A very pleasant day.

After Bernice's guitar lesson late Monday morning, she, Barbara, and I ate up the rest of Jo's shrimp cocktail, the leftover veggies, and the bread for lunch. Still got some chicken for dinner tonight. I love leftovers!

Don Firth

Spent it mostley on my own, really enjoyed the peace and felt quite at one with the world, played some music, went out with a girl friend on the Sunday and then again to the coast, Broadstairs in Kent on the Monday, looked around an italian market and bought some great food.

Generally really enjoyed the sun, sea, and the occasional good friends company.

Oh and laid in late which was a rare treat for me.

I featured 2 hours of music focussing on
the mandolin...it was fun. Lots of picking!!
I went out to lunch with my friend. We
used a gift certificate I got from my
fire department for 15 years of service.
We went to a local mountain top to fly
kites with my daughter. We had 2 kites
that look like ships. The wind was not
strong enough to keep them in the air
for very long, but we did get them
launched. The mountain, a volcanic
plateau...Table Mountain, is a local
wildflower spot in the spring. It is
covered with lupines, poppies, and
clover and many other blossoms. And
there were lots of unusual kites there,
too.

Sounds heavenly, Michael!

We got up early with a phone call from our daughter that it was starting to rain. If we wanted to see our grandson hunt Easter eggs, we'd better get there soon as they were all outside. We got dressed, walked down and had a blast watching old, chunky "Nanny Dizzy," the pit bull matriarch, show the kid where all the goodies were in the yard. Got some great pictures. Went inside so Morgan could show us his Easter basket and other stuff he got for the day. We then came home, ate breakfast and moved four bookshelves with books from two different spots in the house back to my office and also cleaned house. Had some nice phone visits with the rest of family. It was a nice day.

Painting a picture of a pioneer church on a plate using procelain paints. It's for a fundraiser in aid of restoration work on the structure, which dates from 1884. In this area, that predates almost everything except the land.

Sang in the church choir. Slept. Finished the taxes.

Best part - there is a handicapped boy named Dante in our church. I think he's about nine. He is so disabled, I didn't know whether he had a mind or not. (Every time I had seen him, he'd been lying in his carrier with his eyes closed.) Well, he was being lifted onto his mother's back to go piggy-back up the stairs, and I said, "Look at you, Dante, you're getting a ride!" His mouth formed what was definitely a smile. It was awkward, but it was definitely a smile. So I said "Happy Easter," and he said "Happy Easter" back. It made my day.

In a few months the church will have an elevator, thank goodness.
