Hallo all ,
I am going to Holland and am going to be there for ten days
from the 13th to 23th of May in Delft ( IKEA ) town :>)
Are there any Mudcatters in this area ?

You may have upset them, Skarpi, by putting Holland (which is a province ) instead of The Netherlands, which is the country----they are a bit sensitive about that !! Although, to be fair, Delft IS in the province of Zuid (south) Holland, so they might forgive you !Sorry, Skarpi, als ik ben pedantic, maar kan ik het hulpen niet !!

         Ik ben niet naar Delft geweest, eigenlijk, maar ik vind Blokzijl en Giethoorn allebei mooie ( en het eiland Texel, natuurlijk !! ).Wel bedankt voor de taal les !! Er is niemand anders hier in Egham met wie ik kan de Nederlandse of Vlaamse taalen praaten ! Sorry als ik heb van de "thread" uitgegaan !

Ik ben twee keer of Terschelling geweest. Zo mooie.
Je moet wel naar Delft, met de trein, dan kan je veel drinken :-)
Ik kom in Augustus met mijn familie op vakantie.
Ik ben en engelsman maar mijn vrouw is en Amsterdammer.
Mijn nederlandse wordt slechter nu, omdat ik ben 18 jaar geweest van Amsterdam.

Bubblyrat can't help with regards to Mudcatters in Delft Neither can I.
However we were practising our Dutch and keeping the thread at the top in the hope that somebody can help.

Delft (AND considering the name is known all over the world) is a cultural shithole .It is one of the worst towns in Holland for a beer , song and a night out in general. It is full of boring trainee Civil and Mechanical Engineers . Its' Uni seems to specialise in Civil Engineering and spawns lots of wierd societes.Give Delft a miss and certaily don't go looking for any potteries. Sadly there's not much going either at nearby Rotterdam.

Everywhere in Holland is only an hour away by transit - don't sell Erasmus short nor Leiden either. Seek and ye shall find a woderful time - there is much to the Dutch.

Hi Villain,
Not so much a bad experience but I worked there , I have worked all over Holland , in fact I have a Dutch Sofi Nummer (National Insurance No.)
I told it how i think it is , cos we were talking about Delft , and I dismissed Rotterdam, but please believe me Holland/Netherlands and it's provinces i.e. are great places to be.
I once had a weekend up in Friesland were I met up with the Wilson Family who were doing a weekend gig . We're still talking and laughing about.
My favourite place is Groningen , if you ever get there - try O'Kellys Pub.Owners Pete and Eve.
Real good atmosphere and so has the town.
Amsterdam ? - I can take or leave it, being going there since the late sixties - perhaps I'm too old for it now , but Delft ? stay on the train and get off at Leiden instead.

Been to Groningen and liked it. I was a freelance IT teacher at the time and had to do a couple of days up their at a company. It was quite funny. I couldn't understand their dialect, so I had to agree that they spoke in normal Dutch to me. The two days were conducted totally in Dutch and the English language was not allowed. It was tough for me, but a great experience. Such nice people.
Leiden is a nice place. I am just trying to recollect. I saw Queen twice live in Holland. One was at Rotterdam Ahoy and the other was in Leiden, but can't remember the venue (the place rocked that night).
I particularly like Gouda.

need to find out how long is to Groningen from Delft by train
and how long time it takes to go there and back ,
in Assen near Groningen is one Mudcatter :>) that I would like to visit
at least for one day .

How does that limerick go, now ?? I can only recall the last two lines :

   Actually, I am a bit stuck ,at the moment. I inherited , years ago, a large print ,in a frame,called an " overmantle ". Produced, by De Dietrich of Bruxelles ( Brussels) cica 1900, it depicts several women, some little girls, and 1 or 2 men, all in clogs and full Dutch, (or possibly Flemish from around Antwerp, I don"t know )National Dress , complete with tears and patches ( very authentic ! ) , and fish in baskets, some on the ground.The women all look worn out,with sore-looking faces and rough,red hands. These figures are all on a quayside, and on the opposite bank are several typical sailing barges with lee-boards. Now then, these boats have their mainsails hoisted, and they all have the identification letters BU or BO on them. So I was vainly hoping that someone might know the location !! ??

Isn"t there a song about The Maeve ( and 2 other vessels of the Irish Navy ?? )

You will want to start with the National Rail System http://www.ns.nl

Leiden is 20 minutes away from Delft.

Groningen is 1:45 hour to the North.

Lots of small bus and trolly car connectors

Read - Research - Study - Get a MAP!!! Check the university callendars.
