Subject: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Grimmy Date: 03 May 07 - 12:45 PM It's my painful duty to announce the death of Rose the Sudanese goat, beloved wife of Charles Tombe, who departed this life after choking on a plastic bag. You may remember that local elders ordered Mr Tombe to "marry" Rose after he was discovered having sex with her. He was also ordered to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars (see the original story). Apparently, the happy couple had one kid during their all too brief period of marital bliss (see latest story). RIP Rose. |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Mickey191 Date: 03 May 07 - 07:21 PM In some cultures don't you have to marry the dead wife's sister? I wonder if they're on good terms? He won't have a hard time finding her-I heard there is a remarkable resemblance between the two. Should we send flowers? |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Cool Beans Date: 03 May 07 - 07:48 PM Edward Albee wrote a play about a similar situation--guy leaves his wife for a goat. She's not pleased. The wife, I mean. It's called "The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?" Sylvia is the goat's name. Really. You could look it up. |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Charley Noble Date: 04 May 07 - 10:24 AM This is really sad news. I feel a ballad lurking to be composed. Will it be a parody of "The Foggy, Foggy Dew" or "Barbary Ellen"? Charley Noble, adrift in NYC |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Desdemona Date: 04 May 07 - 05:46 PM I actually saw "The Goat" in Boston last year; it was pretty harrowing in the execution! While the premise inevitably produces guffaws, beginning with the subtitle's pun on The Two Gentlemen of Verona's "Who is Silvia? what is she,/ That all our swains commend her?", in the event it was actually a rather thought-provoking tragedy about the nature of "Love", etc. In the case of the newly widowed Sudanese fellow, I can only say that the whole business makes me feel baaaad, especially for the kid; I hope they had a good nanny! ~D |

If he decided to finish the goat off would this then be murder.........or could he kill and eat it? |

Subject: RE: BS: Bloke who married goat - now a widower From: Jean(eanjay) Date: 08 May 07 - 01:27 PM At least he's free now to remarry. Presumably this kind of thing has happened before and will happen again - I still wonder where someone would stand if they got fed up with being married to a goat (life expectancy over 15 years)! It was a punishment so maybe it was for life. |
