Subject: Louth Folk Club - new venue? From: Sooz Date: 10 May 07 - 02:47 AM On Tuesday evening the bar in the Olde Whyte Swanne was empty while the back room was packed with Folk Club attendees. The landlady presented the club with a letter stating that in future she would be asking for £25 to hire the room. Result - in a fortnight she can have a completely empty pub while the club meets elsewhere (probably the Mason's Arms). Saves all that washing up and a trip to the bank I suppose...... |

Subject: RE: Louth Folk Club - new venue? From: Georgiansilver Date: 10 May 07 - 02:53 AM Not the first pub that has not appreciated the business of course but when they realise how they have cut their own throats it's too late. That room is only worth a fiver a go anyway......OOOps. |
Subject: RE: Louth Folk Club - new venue? From: Myrtle Date: 10 May 07 - 04:03 AM The Mason's is a really nice pub, and has just won CAMRA's Town Pub of the Year award, so I hope its the new venue.....hopefully should be a bit less claustrophobic! Regards, Myrtle. |
Subject: RE: Louth Folk Club - new venue? From: GUEST,Backwoodsman Date: 10 May 07 - 05:57 AM Perhaps she got fed up with all the pissed-up Lincolnshire backwoodsmen that the club attracted? :-) Or maybe she's a close relative of our dear Countess? She certainly seems to be just as deranged and up her own rectum. |

Subject: RE: Louth Folk Club - new venue? From: GUEST,Graham Date: 08 Jul 22 - 01:34 PM I'm a bit late on this thread. The order of events I recall: my brother Keith Brown and I started the club in 1970 at the Wheatsheaf but we only stayed there a couple of weeks. It was then to the Crown & Woolpack and then The Poacher. Initially Liam Duffy was to be a resident but the logistics proved unmanageable. I went to Uni in Nottingham and Keith gave the club up soon after. |
