Subject: Lyr Req: Earl of X's Daughter From: Håvard Date: 07 Apr 99 - 05:18 AM Still looking for obscure lyrics... I believe this to be a Scottish border ballad, but aren't sure. The chorus goes (approximately): "She's the Earl of "somewhere"'s daughter, and the fairest of them all, but a simple, "adjective" "adjective" lad, has stole her heart awa'" Håvard |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Earl of X's Daughter From: Allan C. Date: 07 Apr 99 - 01:30 PM Steeleye Span did a song on their "Below the Salt" album (now CD) called "Royal Forester". Here is the last verse: This couple they got married, They live in Huntley town, She's the Earl of Airlie's daughter And he's the blacksmith's son. Their jacket notes (tongue in cheek?) regarding the history of the song are as follows: Subtitled 'The Aboriculturist Meets Superwoman' The first English text appeared in Anchovy Ram's elementary drum tutor 'Half Way to Paradiddle' published in 1293. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Earl of X's Daughter From: Håvard Date: 08 Apr 99 - 11:20 AM I'm afraid neither of the two suggested songs above (1,2) are the one I'm looking for. Not surprisingly, the theme is well used in folk songs ;-). The words I wrote in my first mail are repeated in every chorus. The second unknown word might be "squire", but I'm not sure Thanks for the help, though" Håvard |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Earl of X's Daughter From: skw@worldmusic.de Date: 08 Apr 99 - 01:29 PM Is it a version of 'The Knight and The Shepherd's Daughter? Searching the DT for [Knight and] brought up about eight versions. Good luck! - Susanne |
