A new book relating stories from the rock and roll excesses reviewed recently on the BBC.

The title comes from the time when SQ were touring Australia.

The tour bus knocked over a kangaroo so the band dressed it up in a leather jacket, bandana and sunglasses and took their photographs with the kangarooo propped up between them.

Unfortunately it was only stunned and when it recovered it smacked them like kangaroos do and took off. Which would not have been too bad except the keys to the tour bus were in the jacket pocket!

It occurred to me that there should be some good stories from folk.

Anyone like to contribute. Names could be hidden if necessary.

Dressed like that he should be fairly easy to spot, I'd think.

It is unclear to me if the 'roo took off hopping or driving. Now, if the tourbus were a right-hand-drive stick-shift, that would be really remarkable!

There's no other sort in Oz, Art.
You've got to watch the kangarooballies.

Cheers, Rowan

That story has been an Ozzie urban myth for many years - the name/s of the tourist changes on each telling!

Cheers

I thought the thread related to the Quo doing 'On board the Kangaroo'! Why not - they have already covered 'All round my hat':-)

I heard the author on the radio - he was debunking many of the myths - but this on seemed to be (as he was talking ) true -. What does he say in the book, re provenence?

Also FWIW, kangaroos have provided endless opportunities for Australians to take the mickey out of people from north of the equator, especially ones who seem to have a propensity to regard their own cultures as 'superior'.

I forget how many times I've overheard someone describing (usually to someone from the USA) how Aussies get their mail delivered by kangaroo; that one must be more than a century old now. I suppose it's payback for all those time when an Australian in the US becomes part of the following well-meant exchange.

North American; "Where do you come from?"
Australian; "Australia."
North American; "Oh, but you speal English so well!"

Watch out for those kangarooballies!
Cheers, Rowan
