Subject: Computing for dummies From: bill\sables Date: 09 Apr 99 - 05:48 PM Would it be at all possible for Max or Joe Offer or anyone else to make a page full of instructions which tell us computer dummies how to do things like put a clickable (here) on threads. I have sent songs in to mudcat and they all seem to be in a messy order but someone seems to sort them out before they are in the forum, is it Joe Offer or do we have we faries at the bottom of our computers. How do we send music (Tunes ) ? How do we get into I.R.C.? I'm sure I am not the only computer illiterate to be a member of mudcat and it would probably relieve those of you who know all about these machines to have us others know something about what we are doing. I would suggest a seperate printable page (so as we don't have to print out thirty pages of threads) in simple idiot proof language. I grew up in the fifties when computers were still beads on bits if wire in a frame If there are any more computer dummies out there please say so I don't want to be the only one. But it would help a lot if I could do the things everyone else seems to be able to do Cheers Bill |

Subject: RE: Computing for dummies From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Apr 99 - 05:56 PM Hi, Bill - If you posted a message and a clickable link was added or the line breaks in song lyrics were straightened out, those repairs were made by pixies. It's all part of the Mudcat Magic. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Computing for dummies From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Apr 99 - 06:07 PM And if it wasn't them, it was probably me; but there ARE other people out there with edit buttons, waiting to pounce down on faulty HTML and fix it (I quite frequently beat 'em to it, but they're getting faster). I'm trying to maintain this thread (click here) as a guide to HTML on Mudcat. If you read it carefully and play around a bit, you should soon be typing those angle brackets as fast as the rest of us. Feet free to post test HTHL on that thread or this one - eventually, I'll delete the stuff that's just experimentation. Click here to get to the Mudcat IRC Chat Room. I haven't ever actually met another person there, but it seems to work OK for me. I've been in there three times, I think. Each time I enter, I hear a doorbell ring. I go to the front door of my house, and nobody was there. Anyhow, I know the doorbell on chat works for me. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Computing for dummies From: Barbara Date: 09 Apr 99 - 10:40 PM I dunno about you, Tony but I got security violation stuff and other error messages until I upgraded my browser to Netscape 4.51. Good news, it's free; bad news is (if you've got a 28.8 modem like me) it takes an hour and a half or more. Blessings, Barbara |

Subject: RE: Computing for dummies From: Joe Offer Date: 10 Apr 99 - 04:37 AM Well, Bill Sables and I got chat working earlier today, so we've at least been able to ascertain it's working. Reggie had some kind of cookie trouble, and I didn't think the cookid had anything to do with chat. If does - Reggie, try resetting your cookie with the link on the top of the forum page. -Joe Offer- |

Subject: RE: Computing for dummies From: bill\sables Date: 10 Apr 99 - 06:03 AM I got into the chat room three times last night with Joe Offer, Sean M, and katlaughing It worked very well. Now that I've cracked that one I will have to try this click here thing. Cheers Bill |
