I heard this song last night that I really enjoy. I've heard it several places, it's just a good stomp-around-enjoy-yourself song.

All I can remember though is this little snippet of the chorus. It's kinda cajun so I can't really understand even the snippet perfectly so this is what I hear:

Hey now! /hey now/ (audience response sometimes) Hey now! /hey now/ (audience response sometimes) Iko iko Annie

Now, that's not to extremely helpful.. I know.. especially since what the heck is "iko iko annie"

but..

any help is appreciated

Ooh, that's ringing some faint early '80's bells. I think it was in the British charts then, but for the life of me.....

My brother sang this song when he was in The Water Street Boys Jug Band and The Color Blind James Rock and Roll Experience

Said My fine Boy to Your Fine Boy, Iko Iko I may

Shall we go on holiday, Iko Iko I may.

Build the song from there, its a play party song he brought home from New Orleans one year.

As the other thread says: It's Prof. longhair that i think of with this tune. But i do love the Wild Tchapitulas (sp?) version very much.

In 1976, the Wild Tchoupitoulas released an album on Island Records featuring George Landry, Chief of the tribe, as lead singer, the Meters as a backup band, and what is believed to be the first recording the four Neville Brothers singing together.

The Neville's sister, Athelgra, was in the Dixie Cups who as mentioned in the other thread also did the song.

I don't know if that's on the 1976 album, but it cropped up in a documentary on New Orleans and the Mardi Gras some years ago, in which the information about Flag Boys and other bits and pieces helped explain the Dixie Cups' song that I'd heard all those years ago.

The Grateful dead used to sing this song "Iko Iko" all the time in concert. It's an old Southern Cajun folk song, often sung by slaves in the very deep south.
