In the first of a series of concert-style evenings, Quicksilver, alias Hilary Spencer (ex-Artisan) and Grant Baynham (of 'That's Life' fame), will be the stars of next Saturday's Shammick Acoustic. Not folk music as we know it, Jim, but fantastic entertainment, and this *is* an acoustic club rather than purely a folk club.

If you're within at least an hour's drive, either as a resident or a visitor, Combe Martin (alias Shammick) is definitely the place to be for that evening.

For further details, PM me or go to the club's website here

I think I've already gone on record here in praise of Shammick Acoustic Nights, but I'll do it again. Tom and Barbara Brown have created evenings full of music and sociability involving folk people and People people in an exemplary way, Would there were more like them. As for 'folk' or 'acoustic' - don't worry about it.'A rose by any other name............'

Not within an hour's drive, sadly, but anyone who is, should go!

Thanks for your support, people. We need to make the first couple of guest nights a success if we want to continue booking guests in 2008. We've a wonderfully supportive landlord in our new venue, but it's still at the experimental stage there. The pub is renowned locally for its selection of real ales, and for good and reasonably priced pub food, which is available in good time before the start of the evening. All of which gives us real hope for the future.

Kitty, you could always come down for a weekend sometime, and include a Saturday night at the club. You'd be very welcome.

Fantastic night from Quicksilver - really opened the eyes of some of the non-folkies that came along. The breadth of their repertoire is truly impressive, and their sense of humour distinctly infectious!

Our next guests are The Yetties - and don't decry them unless you've seen them recently. Tickets selling already.

Shame the steamboat from Swansea to Coombe isn't still running!

But apparently something of the sort is likely to run again from next year! Won't that be great? We're rather hoping it's going to be a car ferry - the time (and probably money) that would save in getting to S. Wales gigs would be wonderful, and maybe we'd get the chance to just pop over for a club night as well as friends from there coming over to us.

Oh, and it's 'Combe', by the way - as in Ilfracombe...
