I don't think global warming quite explains it.

"One theory is the water disappeared through cracks in the lake bottom into underground fissures. But experts do not know why the cracks would have appeared because there have been no earthquakes reported in the area recently, Romero said." From the article

Tell you what: I'd be expecting an earthquake.

How to remove a lake: In dead of winter, cut the surface into manageable blocks, load on trucks and transport to where you want the lake to be. Unload.

Repeat.

Can you hold out until about December, Sorch? *G*

We get a lot of rain in southeast Alaska. One year we had, for us, a dry summer. we had a lot of bright sunny days and people were talking about the possibility of drought although it still rained sporadically.

With that in mind, I said to an oldtimer: In Juneau what would you call a drought?

Not missing a beat, she said, Welcome!

The Andes are notorious for volcanos and stuff. My guess is there is BIG pot of earthly tea brewing as we speak - watch out for the spout!
