Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: Hawker Date: 02 Jul 07 - 09:42 AM Thanks all for your good thoughts, Hawker made it through the night, he has been VERY sick and not able to keep food down since Saturday evening. Yesterday he just refused to eat. He was in severe pain and was unable to stand. Last night he was almost comatose, his eyes were glazed and I had to pat him so that he knew I was there. For the first time in his life he slept downstairs, as he could not get upstairs. I took him to the vet first thing this morning, he has had blood tests and x-rays. I can tell you that he has NOT got a blockage or twisted gut & his bloods were OK except a liver function test, which the vet feels may actually be due to his illness than the reason for his illness. He is severely dehydrated and the vet is keeping him there to keep an eye on him, I have to phone back at 4 pm, so perhaps I'll know more then. Keep up the good thoughts, they are obviously working. Cheers,Lucy |

Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: bubblyrat Date: 03 Jul 07 - 07:42 PM Hi Lucy, Roger just told me about our lovely Hawker. I was going to say, try to keep some water in him. When I have had problems with my cats in the past I have bottle fed them and injected them with water under the skin to try and tide them over and it has worked, so at least while he is at the doc's they will be doing that. Lots of love to you, Kevin, Tamsin and Amber as I know you must be so worried. The power of the Mudcat is amazingly strong!! Annie and Roger xx |

Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: Hawker Date: 04 Jul 07 - 04:56 AM Well, The vet said yesterday that he was very poorly on Monday and they are at a loss as to what made him so ill, but he has has numerous injections and Is now eatingandkeeping it down, he is still pretty obbly on his feet but is wagginghis tail and barking when someone comes to the door, soI think I can say he is on the road to recovery there. Thank you all for your support, It really meant a lot to me, I really thought I was losing him on Sunday night, The vet thought the same on Monday - what a difference a day makes. It did make me think, we have a FREE national health service here in the UK that we all complain about, but the dogs vet bill was £145.70. In my eyes, we get a bargain from the health service when you think about it, (if we manage to avoid MRSA etc!!!!) Well, I'll let you know progress but things are looking up now. Thank you again for your support, Luvyalots, Lucy x |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: jacqui.c Date: 04 Jul 07 - 05:40 AM So glad to hear that Lucy. May he continue to flourish. |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: The PA Date: 04 Jul 07 - 06:37 AM Great news you must be so relieved. One of our collies was taken ill suddenly some years ago, turned out she's got hold of the remains of a rabbit which had been poisoned. She was a bit of a scavenger anyway and being out and about most of the time (working sheep for a farmer friend) she had the opportunity to 'snack'. She recovered that time but we lost her during the foot and mouth year. Someone in the village had but down commercial poison for the vermin which were a real problem then, unfortunately Gyp was not so lucky that time. |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: alanabit Date: 04 Jul 07 - 06:58 AM Glad to hear he is on the way back now. |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: Sorcha Date: 04 Jul 07 - 09:38 AM Lucy, is there ANY possibility that this could be contaminated food imported from China? Like we had in the US a month ago or so? I have no idea if the UK imported any of that stuff or not. |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: Janie Date: 04 Jul 07 - 10:10 AM That's good to hear, Lucy. Hope he is back home and his old self very shortly. Janie |
Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: SINSULL Date: 04 Jul 07 - 10:11 AM Good news! A few years back my huge cat Ed (Oedipus) suddenly became very ill. He couldn't stand, wobbled around and was in pain. I called the vet who said told me to get him to the Animal Hospital. Poor kitty was barely conscious. We rushed off to the hospital expecting Ed was leaving us. At the hospital, I lifted him out of his carrier and he emitted an enormously loud fart. Within seconds he was fine. Quite a stench. The vet couldn't tell me what caused it but all he had was gas. Hope Hawker recovers as quickly and completely. SINS |

Subject: RE: Real Hawker Very Poorly From: Desdemona Date: 04 Jul 07 - 12:13 PM I'm very glad to hear your woofer is on the mend; my own dog--named, as it happens, Lucy--is very much the focus of familial love and affection, and her health is very important to us (the pet food scare was, well, SCARY; since then she's been having a diet of some home-made food, and some from a small family-run organic pet food company). I hate to think of anyone having to be worried about their pet's well-being; hopefully Hawker will be good as new in no time! ~D |
